NYC - Otto's Shrunken Head
Otto's Shrunken Head is a rock n' roll Tiki Bar with a variety of specialty rum drinks served in fun glasses among other liquors. There is no food served here, just liquor. Live music can be heard in back with a D.J. is constantly spinning in front. Zebra print stools sit in front of the bar and red vinyl couches surround tables off to the side. A common nightly hang out for the younger Rock and Roll scene of New York City that is fun for everyone.
It's mid-afternoon and the bar isn't to busy as of yet and even though Danny no longer works at Otto's, he still comes by to see his old coworkers and have a drink. Wearing a pair of jeans and a short sleeved t-shirt he sits at the bar, one of his arms wrapped in a bandaged and other small scrapes like he's been in a recent scuffle. "Man Ah know Ah shouldn't be drinkin' this early but it's just been one of those days Lis." Danny says to the bartender as he sips on a glass of Johnny Walker.
Well…alright. Michael does cut a striking figure when he nips in for a late lunch. Coming in from work means he is in his Class B uniform, the olive coat and khaki shirt familiar to anyone who knows the Marines, or just watched a lot of JAG when it was on television. He makes his way to one of the tables to sit down and look at a menu. He is about 20 years older than most patrons, and about a bajillion percent more uniformed.
There's kind of a silence that comes from the few patrons in the bar, which serves a varity of liquid lunches, and Danny is one of the ones who is silent as well, as he just stares at Michael for a bit. "Ya seem like ya missed a wrong turn cause ya ain't in Kanas no more." Danny says in his thick Southern Twang as it couldn't be more obvious to him that Michael stands out like a sore thumb.
"Never been in Kansas much, actually." Michael says dryly as the entire bar goes quiet, as he looks around at the bar. "I like to explore the city on my lunch breaks, looked like a place where I could get something to eat really quickly." He looks at the menu. All liquid. "Or…not." He gives a nod at that. "Well, alright then."
Danny nods slowly. "This is a bar sir, it ain't a fancy type a place." He says going back to his Johnny Walker. "It gets real busy and crowded at night, good live music too. Right now it's slow cause not many people enjoy the all liquid lunch." Though for Danny, it was needed today.
Michael chuckles a little bit. "Well, that would make it difficult since one of my goals in life is to avoid a court martial, and drinking on the job isn't exactly allowed." He slides out of the booth and tugs at his uniform jacket, the Picard maneuver. "Thank you for the help. I take it you work here, then?"
"Nah, Ah used tah work here but Ah got another job. Ah still like the folk here though." Danny says with a chuckle and wink at the bartender, who in turn reaches over and ruffles Danny's hair. "Ah just got a job offerin' more hours so The Cowboy switched bars." He says with a shrug. "Ah don't drink on the job either, well unless Ah'm bartendin', mah other job, too dangerous."
Michael nods. "I understand the desire to have more pay." He says with obvious amusement, laugh lines crinkling his eyes as he begins to move to the door, pausing to put back on his peaked cap at the door. "Thank you for the help, maybe after hours if I need a drink I'll be back."
Danny shrugs. "It ain't about the pay as much as Ah just like bartendin'. Mah day job pays me well enough." He gets paid by the government to be a superhero and gets room and board for it, he's really not complaining. "Ah just like the barlife, guess it's cause Ah'm still young and wild." He says with a chuckle. "Well if ya like rum, this is the place for yah, lotta good rum mixed drinks."
Michael raises an eyebrow. "Well, it has been years since I had good rum, so maybe I'll take you up on that." He says dryly. "Although I wager you've gathered I'm not much for the bar life any more."
"Ya'd be surprised at what types can come into a bar." Danny says as he's seen men much older than Michael come to the bar to enjoy a few drinks and listen to the music. "Ya get all types here, not for the better or worse, but it's a place for people who enjoy music and booze." Danny says with a chuckle.
Michael gives a little bit of a nod. "Well, I'll let you get back to your lunch, gentlemen, and sorry for the interruption." He says with a nod of his head, chuckling as he steps outside of the bar to put on his cap.
Danny shrugs and gives a nod as Michael leaves. "Take care sir." He says going back to his drink and running a hand through his hair before turning to the bartender. "Ah can't tell if we spooked him or if he just isn't rock n' roll enough for this place. But then again, this really ain't no conservative bar." He says with a chuckle as he goes back to his drink.
