NYC - Nowhere
Nowhere is a community bar, with a slightly old world feel. All of the tables and chairs are made of wood, though there are some couches in a slightly offset room with green fabric. The music varies, depending upon the Owner's music taste for the day. Beer and Liquor are both served, but are both carded for as well.
At the front of the bar, right as one walks in,is a large sign. "Superhuman friendly establishment. There will be no tolerance for disparaging remarks based on one's genetic status. Any fights will not be tolerated within the bar. The management holds no responsibility for where combatants are teleported."
It's another slow evening, right now. Nik's stuck running the bar again. While he doesn't mind it on occasion, he doesn't think he should be doing it constantly. The dayside was busy today, but tonight… dead dead dead. Running a hand through blue hair, he leans against the bar before pouring himself something.
Even though he isn't a mutant, Mutant Town was just in his price range and a convenient place for him to move to. He's still settleing in his new apartment and since he doesn't have to work tonight, he's decided to check out the club called NoWhere around the block. Wearing a tight blue shirt that shows off the fact that he works out and a pair of black jeans, DAnny walks in and heads to the bar, trying to decide just how much he wants to drink tonight.
"Hey." Nik calls when the guy enters. "Welcome to Nowhere. It's a dead night, for some reason. Couldn't tell ya why. Can I getcha somethin'?" He asks, leaning against the bar, his own drink left chilling in a circle of blue energy.
"It's a Monday, Ah noticed bars are usually slow on Monday's." Danny says as he ponders what to order. "Ah used t' bartend on Monday's till they cut back mah hours. Too many people and times are rough.' At least he has his day job working at the book store. "Okay Ah think Ah'll just have a Captain and Coke t'night."
Nik places a glass in front of Danny. A blue ring of energy appears above it. Ice clinks in, followed by a stream of rum and a stream of coke after. He's done this a few times. "Bartender, eh?" He says with a grin. "Cut hours… hmmm. You know, I'm looking for another bartender. My other person is having a lot of issues and has gone on a leave."
Danny raises an eyebrow and smiles. "Nice trick ya got there. And Ah'm so not used t' living in a place where people are so oppen about their powers. Ah kinda like it though." It allows Danny to be a bit more open about who he really is. "Yes sir, Ah'm a bartender over at a bar called Otto's and ya just met me an your offerin' me a job? Ah'll think about it but how many days a week are you looking for?"
"You said it yourself. Times are tough. I expect an application and I'll call references, of course." Nik says with a laugh. "I'm a bar owner. Sure, I know how to bartend, but I'm supposed to be keeping the books. Sure, I get great tips, but I get the profits anyway, the parts that don't go to the people that helped me fund it." He slides the drink down. "Just opening portals in the right places.
"Well sure, Ah'll fill out an application and just let me know how many nights a week ya need. Ah work Tuesday and Thursday nights right now. Tuesday's aren't bad but they even cut mah weekends." Which are the bets night for tips. It's just more they gave priority to the bartenders that have ben there longer. "This would just be convenient since Ah live 'round the corner pretty much."
"Maybe weekends and another pair of days during the week. Just tell me when works best for you." Nik says with a nod as he looks the guy over. "We'll check things out and see how it goes. I don't mind trying someone new out."
"Sounds good and Ah'll et ya know. Ah work days mostly at Borders so Ah don't do many days. Ah need a job that has insurance so Ah can pay for mah medication when Ah need it." Danny admits as he takes a drink from his rum and coke. "Ah'm Danny by the way, Danny Oda."
"Insurance is for fulltimers. AFter you've been here three months at least 34 hours, we can kick it in." Nik says with a quick nod as he looks things over. "Quick. Recipe. Sex on the Beach." Hey, it's a good way to get a feel for things.
"Really, ya offer insurance here?" Danny sounds surprised since most bar jobs he's applied for and the one he has don't offer it. "Vodka, Peach Schnapps, Cranberry Juice, Orange Juice, Pinapple Juice." Danny says quickly as it's a common enough drink. "Ah have my licence and Ah've taken classes. Ah've worked at Otto's Shrunken Head for over a year and a half and it's got a club/bar atmosphere so Ah'm used to workin' with large crowds.'
Nik chuckles and nods. "Unless it's southern, then you change the peach schnapps for Malibu Rum." He nods. "We're in mutant town, here. We NEED insurance. Nobody else will insure us."
"Ah'm not a mutant but Ah'm not without mah own abilities." Danny admits as he shifts into his rock form breify. Turning into his red, sandstone like state for about a minute before shifting back. Hey at least he can double as a sort of bouncer at times? "Ah need insurance, Ah do have bad athsma.'
"Fortunately, there's no smoking in the bars here, so that'll make it easier for you." Nik says with a nod. HE's from New Orleans. They don't have that advantage. He pulls an application sheet out of the drawer under the register and slides it over to Danny.
Danny starts reading over the application and nods. "Ah'm grateful for the no smokin' laws. Ah wouldn't be able to step in a bar otherwise. Ah'm just lucky Ah decided t' move here." Danny says with a chuckle. "So Ah'm assumin' it's the usual bartendin' deal? Mix drinks, keep the bar clean, talk to customers, build customer loyalty type stuff?"
Nik shoots a gun-finger at Danny. "Bingo. Normal bar procedure. And, we get to choose our own music playlists. I like a lot of variation. Let each person choose what they want to hear."
"Ah've learned t' appricate a varitey of music workin' at Otto's. Ah even learned what Rockabilly is." Danny says as he takes another drink after chuckling. "At home Ah mostly listen t' soft rock but it's not really bar music. Ah just think a bar should aways have music t' keep your mood positive."
"Oh, you should see me on metal nights." Nik laughs. "I have different nights depending on my mood. There's country sometimes, metal, punk, pop. It rotates."
"Ah actually try t' stay away from most country but Ah did grow up hearin' quite a bit of it." Danny says with a chuckle. "Growin' up in Virgina almost every radio station plays country. Over all though, Ah ain't picky when it comes to music. As long as it keeps an energetic mood."
"Kentucky and New Orleans myself. I know Country only TOO well." Nik laughs, shrugging. "Some of it's ok. Anything that's not about losing your job, losing your girl, losing your dog, or losing your beer." He nods, reaching for his portal-chilled drink and taking a sip. "The worst part about having a cold body. It's impossible to have a nice cold drink. It's all warm."
"Ah know exactly what ya mean. 'Bout the country music. There is some Ah don't mind but Ah feel that people come t' a bar to relax, enjoy themselves or get away from problems not rock out t' people singing about their problems and depressing stuff. And cold, Ah don't do so hot in the cold." Actually something about the cold effects Dannys powers.
"Anyway, get that app filled out and I'll see if I can work you in some hours pretty soon, so you're not short for too long." Nik says with a quick nod as he finishes his own drink. "My power's nothing but cold."
Danny finishes his drink and takes out a pen. "Sounds good sir." DAnny says with a smile as he goes to start filling out the application, letting Nik get back to work and go help the few other customers that are in the club at the moment.
