Xavier Mansion - Recreation Room
What was once the Parlor has been turned into a Recreation Room for the students. A nice plush carpet meets the light blue walls giving it a homey feel. A pool table at one end, a foos ball table at the other, and entertainment center with video game systems, movies, and of course, cable TV. Big comfy chairs and couches surround a coffee table for comfortable loafing. Long glass windows with a pair of French doors line one side of the room bringing in plenty of light during the day. The main rule in here is to clean up after yourself.
The younger Heather is much more colourful than her future counterpart: Today she is wearing a pair of red sweatpants, a purple tank top and a leopard print scrunchie in her hair. She is not really very good at this whole 'colour coordination' thing. The speedster is sitting on the floor playing a game of chess against herself. Perhaps she is threatened by the fact that Chloe is reading a book and feels the need to practice. Or maybe she just does this every day after finishing her workout sessions.
Chloe doesn't so much as enter the Rec Room as she bursts into it. "Oh my god there you are!" she exclaims. "I just had the /weirdest/ day ever. I met you from the future. Only she… you… had fallen in with this villain who makes you dress like a bondage fairy. She also kidnapped Cloud by telling him he was going to die, which I honestly can't believe he fell for…" She's talking so fast that she might just hit fast world seven if she doesn't run out of air first…
Heather stands up and /stares/ at Chloe after she bursts into the room. "A bondage fairy? That's disconcerting," is all she manages to muster for a few moments. She raises her eyebrow slightly and says, "Are you sure this was me? It might have just been someone who was two weeks earlier for the pride march…" She crouches to move one of her pieces and says, "Please calm down!"
"I have proof!" Chloe declares, pulling out the watch which got stuck in her cybernetic grip. "See. It was definitely you and definitely from the future. Or me, Connor and… well actually Cloud might be mad but me and Connor are both fairly normal."
"I thought you said Cloud was kidnapped?" says Heather, as she takes a couple of steps forwards to look at the watch, "Oh, you found my watch!" She reaches to grab it before she notices that she's already wearing it. "Huh. You found my watch… again?"
"I did, which is why I think he might be a little lacking in the brains department. Future you didn't force him anywhere," Chloe explains, holding the watch up for inspection. "We better not let it touch your watch. Who knows they might explode if they come into contact with each other."
Furrowing her brow slightly, Heather objects, "It's time travel, not antimatter!" She makes a grab for the watch again, wanting to inspect it. "How did I get from the future, anyways? Do I become an inventor or something?" She laughs at the thought and says to Chloe, "This is very strange, you know."
"I have no idea! But you'd fallen in with some pretty suspicious sounding types," Chloe says solemnly, letting Heather get a better look. It is her watch after all. "Connor seemed to have heard of this Ahab guy. Apparantly he's the one who attacked James /and/ rumour has it kidnapped Cam. But future you talked about him as if he was the good guy. Only in a really… forced way. Like you'd been inducted into a cult or something."
"A cult? I wouldn't join a cult, Chloe." She thinks she's literally the center of the universe. What does she need a cult for? She looks at the watch, strapping it on and then unstrapping it, handing it back to Chloe. "It looks worn. I'm surprised it works. Here, you keep it. We'll wear matching watches. I've never heard of Ahab. Wait." Pause. "No, that's literature." She's not taking this grave news all that seriously.
Chloe pouts. "What else would you call it when you dress in a silly costume and try recruit people to nefarious ends?" she asks, before grinning. "Man I've always wanted an excuse to say that word. But anyway this is serious! And of course you haven't heard of him yet, he's from the future." She pauses and then shrugs. "I don't think you needed gadgets to do whatever it was you did. I think your power gets way stronger. You could handle maybe four times my current fast world /and/ do this thing where you came back through time to help yourself out. One minute there was one of you and the next 'bampf' another future you appears out of no-where."
"Actually, that's pretty cool," says Heather, frowning slightly at hearing Chloe's description of her powers. She looks down at her chess board and says, "But I don't think it's me. I wouldn't wear a silly costume and try to make people evil or anything. That's not what I want." She scratches her head lightly and says, "Maybe my parents have something to do with it? My dad is an illusionist. He could create a future me. Besides, what can I even do about it if it is? I don't intend on being like that."
Chloe shakes her head. "That wouldn't explain the watch would it? Or them kidnapping Cloud," she points out, pouting. "I… I have no idea what it means. This is outside of even the usual kind of weird we get here. Stuff we can do… Uhm promise you'll just run away if you ever meet anyone called Ahab?"
Heather blinks a few times and says, "But if I don't come back in time to weird you out, then you won't tell me to run away, then I won't run away from Ahab." She scratches her head lightly and says contemplatively, "This is a little much to think about. I am trying to imagine playing a game while going through time like that. Is there any way to win?"
Chloe takes a few steps and thuds her head into the wall. "Maybe the only way to win is to cheat? If you have this ability to bring yourself in from the future you could send yourself from when you're really old. Then you'd have plenty of time to figure out a way to fix yourself so that when you get around to letting yourself be caught arghhhhh… This is hurting my brain."
Heather contemplates this for a few moments and says, "Cheat. Right. The only way to cheat would be to slip in moves that the other player doesn't know about. But the other player is me. From the future." She furrows her brow slightly and says, "I wonder what a future version of me who is not crazy would do?" She crosses her arms and closes her eyes in thought.
"Ahhh but here's the trick you get a telepath to wipe the memories of your plans /then/ get captured," Chloe explains, twirling and snapping her fingers. "We need to watch Bill and Tedd. The one where they use time travel to win against someone who also has time travel. If nothing else it'll make the subject stop hurting my brain as much…"
Heather nods at Chloe and says, "So I have to get rid of this conversation too when I do that." She pauses for a few moments and says, now actually serious, "You should keep my watch. It might be important." She stops and says, brightly, "Oh, do you have a way to watch movies in fast-world, too?"
Chloe blinks a few times, then sighs. "No. But I could stick the audio onto my mp3 player then we listen to that while speeding the pictures," she offers with a shrug. "I might show the watch to… I dunno someone smart who knows about time travel. Doctor McCoy maybe? There might be a 'temporal signature' which tells us when in the future it came from! Oh and I don't know if it was important, but future you wore a lot of watches and adjusted them before the /other/ future you turned up. I suppose they could be reminders for when to come help yourself?"
Heather nods and says, "I think that's how I would do it, yes." She scratches her head lightly and says, "I can think of other ways to use the other watches, too." She tilts her head and starts contemplating all the possibilities, "I think it's better to watch a movie now, though. I will find a way to win this weird game." She grins widely, "I always win, after all."
"Promise you'll let me know what ideas you come up with?" Chloe asks, springing towards the TV to see if they have the movie anywhere about. "After all if the trick is to mindwipe yourself it couldn't hurt to have someone on your side who knows the game plan could it?"
Thoughtful, Heather says, "Do I know you in the future? I don't know. You knowing might change me having been here if you know something… Or would you pretend? Not let anything on? But if I'm a villain, it would be hard to pretend… Augh. I just think it would be best if you keep that watch with you, okay? Promise me that you'll keep it."
Chloe nods. "Promise. I'd put it on but with the mp3 player bit of my cyberborg arm it'd look weird," she says with a grin. "And I can't say what I'd do because it would depend on your plan. You seemed to know me… At least you didn't say I was dead when you told Cloud he was."
After a moment's hesitation, Heather says, "I don't think I would have lied about either of you being dead. It doesn't seem like something I would lie about…" She shakes her head and says with a smile, "Yeah, no point in wearing it, I guess… I'm sure you have things fancier than my little watch." Pause. "Are you sure I wasn't an inventor? That's kind of a shame."
"It's not about the watch itself," Chloe explains, holding up her left arm. "The mp3 player is built on and looks like a bracelet type watch thingy. Wearing two would look a little strange. As for your being an inventor… I honestly didn't get any idea either way? You didn't give much away aside from telling me James turns evil, Cloud dies and Connor doesn't talk much."
Heather frowns and says, "I will have to remember to be better at giving away spoilers. I'm so curious! Oh! Another question: even though my outfit was stupid, did I at least look good? I hope I don't get fat." She shakes her head and says, "This is the last time I'll ask about it, I promise!"
"Honestly? You seemed a little on the thin side," Chloe informs with a giggle. "But aside from that you could have been /you/. Oh! You were grabbing junk food and mentioned about it being hard to get hold of… Which either means they banned it or people have really let the neighborhood go…"
"Banned junk food? Seriously? The future is messed up," says Heather, shaking her head in bewilderment. "I'm going to go start heating up some popcorn!" Because there is nothing better than two impatient speedsters waiting for popcorn to pop.
Chloe nods. "Awesome. Just erm… make plain popcorn and we'll add flavorings seperately?" she asks tentatively. "No adding in something exotic like hot sauce without telling me, okay? I don't wanna find out I've changed the future so I'm dead because of popcorn misadventure."
Heather tilts her head and points out, "I probably would have added ingredients in the first place. Having me /not/ add them might be changing the future. Oh, I feel like this future me opened a whole can of worms…"
"Or was the can already open and you just had to wait until now before you'd see it?" Chloe teases, grabbing a dvd case from somewhere at the back. "I think it's safe to say if you /can/ change the future by changing the past we could spend forever trying to work out how everything could end up. We might as well just keep going as best we can and hope we're doing a better job than before…"
Heather nods and says, "We will! But I'm still putting hot sauce on /my/ popcorn. I like the way the flavour is." She smiles brightly and zips out to go get it started.
