NYC - Central Park
Central Park is a large public park in upper Manhattan, largest areas of green with people reading, having a picnic, or playing Frisbee. Walking paths can be found all around the park. In-between the large area's of grass, the park is shadier with many trees. A large road circles the park where joggers, bicyclists, and inline skaters are commonly found.
It's a cloudy day and it's nearing lunchtime and the park is filled with runners, relaxers, readers and more. One of the readers is Aiden, lying in the grass on his stomach wearing a pair of tight black pants tucked into a pair of buckeled boots with a black t-shirt on, the tribabl tattoo like markings on his arms in a soft green colour are quite visiable. His two large blue feathery wings flutter a bit in the breeze behind him. Aiden ignores the looks he gets for being open in regards to his mutation and turns the page of his book and keeps reading.
Having some free time before his next class Kai's taking a quick wallk though the city just incase he comes across something of interest, he'll follow real leads when he finishes school for the day, he's dressed in a pair of dark grey combats, an ice-blue long sleeved shirt, red converse and his schoolbag is slung over his shoulder, crossing though the park he can't help but notice the man with the wings, as with other mutants he's seen, he pulls out his phone and takes a picture of the man.
Dog-earring a page as he finishes up his chapter, Aiden stands up and stretches, his arms and wings stretching out next to him. He goes to put his book in back pack and exchanges it for a small handheld mirror in which he starts checking to make sure his drawn on eyebrows aren't smudged. While doing so he notices Kai with his phone pointed right at him and he looks over at the teen with a raised eyebrow for a bit trying to figure out what Kai's doing.
As soon as it's pretty obvious that he's been spotted by the winged mutant, Kai does his best paniced-deer-caught-in-headlights look, and makes to quickly slip the phone backvinto his pocket, fumbling enough that he drops the phone on the floor making the boy look more paniced as he almost dives down to get it.
Aiden walks over to pick up the dropped phone and attempts to reach down and hand it to the panicked Kai. The green in his tattoos gain a bit of oragne in them at his curiosity. "Usually when people take pictures of me it's when I'm preforming." He says with a bit of an amused smile. "I'm Aiden." He says offering a hand.
Kai gulps and quickly takes the offered phone and slips it into his pocket, the slight change in the tattoos colour get a slight raised eyebrow, hmm seems Aiden has other abilities, not making direct eye contact he shakes the offered hand, "I'm Kai, sorry about the pictures".
"Pleasure to meet you Kai." Aiden says with a nod. "Don't worry about it, I know I look different then most people. Not everyone is into the goth subculture." He says making it sound like he's talking about his style more then the fact that he has wings. "Though if you want some good pictures of me, you should get them when I'm swallowing swords or breathing fire down in Coney Island."
Kai can't help but tense up slightly when Aiden announces that he can breathe fire, fire being one of his least favorite things in the world, "You can breathe fire, like really?", even with his training he is still weary of something he knows can hurt him.
"It's part of my act." Aiden says not realizing that Kai thinks he can literally breath fire. "I preform five times a week down in Coney Island as part of the freak show down there. And dont' look so scared, I've been trained how to do it right so that I don't accidentally inhale the fluid and inhale the fire. I've been doing it for about ten years."
"Inhale the fluid???, wait it's just an act, you can't physicly breathe fire?", if thats the case Kai is gonna start feeling much more relaxed, "You're part of a freak show?, and you have no problem being called a freak?", from what he knows don't most mutants disagree with being called freaks?
Aiden laughs and shakes his head the orange pretty much faded from his tattoos leaving them a solid green. "No, no, no. I can't literally breath fire. Just cause I have wings doesn't make me a dragon." He says looking back at his wings. "Besides they're more bird-like then giant lizard like." He says before shrugging. "Nope, I don't. I am who I am and I'm not ashamed of it. But usually I use it cause it's like in the old days, a sideshow performer."
Kai shrugs, "Sorry, i'm not sure about how the whole 'mutant' thing works, i thought maybe you flew and breathed fire", the word "mutant" is said much more quietly than the rest of the sentance, hmm ok mutant sideshow performer, doesn't sound like Aiden would have any connection to the supposed SHIELD school…
"I don't either. Something happens to some people and we get powers. It's like magic or something." Aiden says as all he knows is that he is one. "Well I do fly and breath fire but not because it's my mutant power to breath fire. It's because of lamp oil." He says with a nod. "You should come down and check out the show sometime, it's really cool." He says obviously promoting his work a bit.
Kai really wants to see the show but that would definatly count as going off mission, he can explain socialising with kids at school because he has to appear normal, but going to a show would be purely just because he's interested, unless there may be people from that school at the show, maybe looking for new ideas on how to use their powers, yeah that works, "How much does the show cost?"
"It's only seven fifty for the show. Not to expensive." Aiden says with a shrug of his shoulder. "There are some really cool acts there like this snake charmer, a guy who hammers nails into his nose, the usual type of acts. I'm one of the few fire breathers and sword swallowers, the wings are what help me stand out though."
Kai nods, "Ok, i'll check it out", anyways it's not like he hasn't made any progress yet, he's met Iron Man, that connection will be usefull at some point down the line, "You said it's at Coney Island right?"
"Coney Island Freakshow. It's on the website…I checked it out the other day. It's got all the preformers on it." Aiden says. "I'm really hoping that one of my friends finds the website and we can find eachother that way since they told me they just put me on it a few weeks back."
"Why don't you try Facebook?", as a part of Kai's cover story, he had a facebook page made, he's gotten used to using it now, but gets quite annoyed at the constant game requests, not to mention people he's barely met keep sending him friend requests, "You can find people on there".
"What's Facebook?" Aiden asks with a bit of confusion on his face. "Honestly I'm really new to computers. I use one at the library ever once in a while and I don't really know much beside Google and that Coney Island has a website. I didn't use a computer until recently."
"Facebook is a social networking website, you add friends send messages, chat play games and send pointless virtual gifts, however it can be useful for finding a friend you havn't spoken to in a while", most of that is what Kai read on a website, with a little bit of his own opinion thrown in.
"Social Networking…" Aiden mutters as his tattoos start to take on a faint redish hue of frustration. "I know I've heard of that but I can't remember where. Or what it is." He says trying to remember. "But, I don't think something like that would help, thanks though Kai. Also I don't even know how to do any of that type of stuff. A friend of mine tried to hook me up with email, I'm still figuring it out."
Kai again notes a change in the colour of Aiden's tattoos, this guy just keeps getting more interesting, "So computers aren't your thing, have you tried a P.I or tried to contact a mutual friend?, that might be the way to do it and you can avoid technology".
"P.I.?" Aiden asks. "Is that some kind of computer thing? And mutual friend…well..that's the problem. Before I came here I was part of a traveling freak show. We performed at faires and stuff, we were hired for our act. Something happened and we all got seperated so I've kinda been on my own for the last two years. So thanks for your help but it's a weird situation that I'm sure will work out in the end."
"P.I means private investigator, thats someone you pay to help you find something, be it a person or item or information", Kai smiles at Aiden's optimism, it takes a lot of character not to let problems get you down, "I'm sure with that attitude, it'll sort itself in no time".
Aiden shakes his head. "Oh man, I don't have that kind of money to hire something..someone..like that. I work two jobs just to make rent and get food." He admits. "Well, I can't let it get me down other wise I'd lose hope and then there would be no way I'd find them, right? If I have hope, and if I believe then that's something."
Kai nods, "Best way to go about it don't let problems get in your way, think around them, theres always another way, just gotta see it", he runs a hand though his hair, "I'll keep an eye out for anymore freak shows i might hear about, and let you know".
Aiden nods and flutters his wings a bit. "Well Kai, it was nice metting you but I gotta head out. I also work as a waiter in a small place in Mutant Town so I gotta get to work. Thanks for the advice." He says as he spreads his wings and takes up so he can fly off to his next job.
Kai nods and watches Aiden fly away, before checking his watch and turning to head back to school, hopefully Aiden will prove to be useful to his mission in the future, though he is unlikly to have a connection to SHIELD.
