NYC- Thompson Square Park
Thompson Square Park is a small park in the middle of Mutant Town. The benches might need a fresh coat of paint, the fence might be rusted in places and the pavement is raised and has cracks but it's all part of the mutant haven and fairly relaxing. Trees and grassy areas are in between the many paths, there are a few structures and benches along the path as well as a special area of the park that is marked 'the dog walk'.
Two trees have been planted in the park as a Memorial to Carmencita Florez and Detective Baxter each with a plaque stating the tree is in their memory.
With the weather being in the seventies, Jeremy just couldn't stay locked up in the underground base that is Barnes Academy. He hasn't talked or reached out to anyone he might think to call friend in the last several months and with recent events it's been worse. He just needed to be alone, which is why Jeremy is in the park sitting near an empty basketball court in the grass with a book in his lap that he appears to be reading. Even though it's warm out he's dressed in a jacket, gloves and scarf.
Robin has come out to the park with her puppet in tow, Blank carrying the girl's backpack so that Robin can get away with wearing a light form fitting jacket and skinny jeans. If she has achieved her goal of putting on weight, it's not particularly evident, since she looks the same as she always does. The young woman slows down upon spotting Jeremy, biting her lip lightly for a moment before heading in that direction.
Jeremy definately seems lost in his own little world, hardly paying attention to much around him. Which explains why he doesn't notice Robin immedately. Flipping the page in the book in his lap, his eyes move back and fourth as he reads. It's not until he reaches the end of the chapter and he digs around in his jacket for a pack of cigarettes when he notices that Robin is approaching him. He just kind of stares at her like a deer in headlights like he doesn't know what to say.
Robin seems equally at a loss for what to say when she arrives close enough to Jeremy to speak, at least for a few moments, especially at being given that deer in headlights look from the boy. She bites her lip between her canines for a couple of moments and says, "Hey, it's been awhile since I've heard from you."
Shifter is cutting through the park on his way to get hold of some supplies from the Mutant friendly shops in mutant town. With his hood up and head bowed he walks quickly down the path in the direction of the meeting Robin and Jeremy, frowning a little at the heat where he's all wrapped up.
At least Shifter isn't the only one all bundled up as Jeremy is quite warmer than he wants to be in his jacket and scarf. He clears his throat and in a quiet voice he responds to Robin. "Yeah, uh…school..and..stuff." He says, his eyes darting at the ground. "Just been…" It's clear he's not sure what to say.
Robin frowns slightly, looking towards the hooded boy coming in their direction and moving to keep out of the way, and then looks towards Jeremy, listening to the pause after what he says, and guessing, "Busy?" She considers that for a few moments and puts her hands in her jacket pockets, glancing aside.
Shifter stops momentarily looking at Blank thinking that it's a mutant rather than the manifestation of Robin's, the two people it's with are talking but it's seems to just be standing there, hmmmm he can afford a couple of minutes of distraction, "Hello there".
Jeremy shakes his head and continues to look down. His hands grip the sides of the book he's holding, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. "I…roomate trouble." He says closing his eyes for a few seconds. "How…have you been?" He asks Robin, but his eyes dart over to Shifter as he greats Blank and he looks over his shoulder almost like he wants to turn and run.
Robin frowns slightly and says, "I'm sorry to hear that…" She watches his nervous gestures and then says, "I've been okay, Jeremy. Kind of worried, I guess… but okay. Are you okay?" For Blank's part, the blue puppet raises a hand in greeting to Shifter, as if autonomously, and gives a polite and silent nod, seeming unable to speak.
Shifter raises an eyebrow, an he thought he wasn't really one for words, "Errrm, ok", well he gave it a go, Tyda told him to keep an eye out and see if any mutants with obvious mutations are having any trouble, but Blank seems happy enough… Shifter guesses.
Jeremy opens his mouth to answer Robin and then just bursts into tears, buring his face in his hands, sobbing heavily. The Asian kid brings his knees upto his chest and tries to ball himself up as tight as possible as he cries.
Robin seems surprised at the sudden tears coming from Jeremy, and she sits down next to him and, carefully, puts a hand on his shoulder to see if he'll allow that much contact. The puppet looks towards Jeremy, putting its hands up towards its mouth, still soundlessly.
Shifter steps back in shock as the Asian boy suddenly bursts into tears in the middle of the park and start to look a little worrying. He looks away as the crying teen is making him a little uncomfortable, perhaps he should just get going.
There is a jump from Jeremy as Robin touches him but he doesn't pull away. He continues to sob for quite some time and eventually he looks up and goes to light that cigarette he was intendting to do a while ago. Through sobbing breaths and tears he manages to get it lit. "It would be so much easier if I was still doing drugs." He eventually mutters.
Deciding that yeah it's probably best that he heads off back to what he was doing Shifter gives a nod to Blank before heading up the path in the direction he was heading.
The nod from Blank is returned to Shifter, another silent wave is given, before Blank turns back towards the crying boy. Robin's hand creeps over to rub Jeremy's back lightly and she says, "I'm sorry Jeremy… but in the long run, you know it wouldn't be easier…"
"I haven't gone back." Jeremy says as he eventually looks up at Robin with red, puffy eyes. "My roommate…he tried to kill me." He says and it's obvious from the tone of his voice that it scared him, a lot.
Robin looks back towards Jeremy and her eyebrows go up and then her face turns to a sympathetic expression, "Oh Jeremy… I'm sorry that happened to you…" The young woman frowns and says, "I can understand why you seem so jumpy now…"
"If you ever meet someone named Kai Oaken, or Thirteen, be careful, he's…he's a killer Robin. For some really bad organazation." Jeremy says as he takes deep inhales of the cigarette as it's the only thing keeping him from being even worse of a mess. "I don't want to be me anymore."
Robin listens to what Jeremy says and nods her head once in response, looking down towards the ground and then back towards Jeremy. "I can understand the feeling, if not the situation, but you are you and… well… even if the situation is bad, it doesn't mean you're bad or anything…" She bites her lip a moment.
As soon as he finishes with that one cigarette, not bothering smoking slowly, he lights up another one with shaking hands. "I don't want any of this anymore Robin. I don't know what to do. I don't want my powers, I don't want to be killed just because of something I can't control. I just want to disappear."
"I've been there before, I mean… wanting to disappear but…" Robin frowns for a moment and continues rubbing Jeremy's back and then says, "I don't know what you should do either but, not that. Have you not been back to your school for awhile?"
Jeremy shakes his head 'no' at her question. "I've been there, this is the first day I've left since then." His voice still quiet and any self confidence he might have gained over the last few years seems to be shattered at the moment. "I'm sorry Robin, I should…get back there."
Robin frowns at that and then puts her arms around Jeremy if he'll let her, very carefuly not to touch any of his exposed skin and moving slowly. "Okay. If you need to call me just to talk… I'm here for you, okay?"
It's not hard to find unexposed skin on Jeremy as he's covered up everything but his face. At the hug, he tenses up but not from contact more because he's trying not to cry again. He does break away from the hug and then stands up. "I'm sorry Robin but…thanks." He says as he walks off.
