Xavier Mansion - Pool
A large Olympic size pool sits outside at the edge of the property over looking Breakstone Lake. The pool, always heated to the right temperature, starts at a depth of 4 feet at the shallowest end, and gradually reaches a depth of 20ft. A diving board sits at the far end of the pool. Off to the side of the shallow end, a hot tub is built into the ground for those wanting to relax. Pool chairs and tables sit along the side of the pool for those just wanting to enjoy the sunshine.
The one benefit to being a telekinetic in a wheel chair is being able to use your powers to push yourself around, which is exactly what Nick did to get up to the pool. He just needed to get outside, needed to get out of staying in one room for a prolonged period of time. He's a decent length away from the water, as to not roll in, and has a blanket over him to keep him warm, just enjoying the fresh air.
The fresh air is fine. The sunlight, not so much. Jill has opened one of the large patio umbrellas which tend to see more use in the summertime than late October. Stretched out in a long wood and canvas deck chair and safely in the shadow of the umbrella, the vampire looks up from a battered paperback book that appears to have had a new and abusive owner every few weeks. "You're sure you don't want anything?" she asks Nick, holding her place with one hand.
Having heard that Nick and Jill had slipped out to the pool Lock thought he'd check in for a few to see if they're ok. Dressed in jeans and a dark purple coloured hoodie he enters the pool area from the direction of the basketball courts, "Should you guys be out here?"
Nicholas shakes his head. "No, on the way back down to the medbay I'll hit my room and grab my laptop and a few DVDs for down there. I figure dinner before going down too." He smiles over at Jill and looks up at the sky. "Sucks that Orion's a bit mad at me for not being around for a month, but honestly I'm not surprised. He'll get over it." Hearing Warlock walk on over Nick smiles. "Hey Lock. Should I, I don't know but I wasn't staying down there any longer."
"At least he's not afraid of vampires. We're more scared of him than he is of us. And I'd offer to let you borrow this book… but it's terrible." And she continues to read it anyway. Jill tips up her sunglasses and turns to look toward the approaching Warlock. "Sure, why shouldn't we be out here?" replies Jill, settling back into the lounge chair and bringing up her knees to rest the book on. "It's a free country."
Warlock shrugs, "Well Nick's still hurt and that Doctor tends to go overboard with the rest and isn't sunlight bad for you now? or is that special sunscrren you buy enough?". He walks over to the other two using his powers to go across the pool rather than walking round, "Just thought I'd pop by to check that you guys are ok?"
Nicholas looks over at Warlock and raises his eyebrows. "Lock, if you were stuck in that medbay and you had a chance to get out if the Doc said it was okay or not, would you? Especially since this is the first time I've really been outside since we got taken, I don't count Saturday night." Nicholas says since he didn't exactly get to enjoy it. "I'll go visit him again tomorrow. Thanks for the Batman comics, they were really different from the movies."
"Don't worry, I'm playing lifeguard just in case he falls in." Jill simply points a finger up toward the umbrella's canopy without looking up from her novel. "This helps with the sunlight thing too. And you're welcome. I thought it'd be nice to have something you could pass around when you're done with them. Quenton likes comics, right?"
Warlock nods, "Fair point man, I took my chances while they were distracted with you guys, sorry", he crosses his legs and sits in middair, "I was kind of hoping this would all be over when we got out of there".
"I don't know if Quenton does. I'm not sure if he'd be afraid to read them with his strength being back and such." Nicholas says as he did let him know they were there to share. "I gotta learn how to fly….." He says absentmindedly looking over at Lock, " I don't know what I was hoping but just…it is over Warlock, at least that part. Unfortunately it's new crap…how's your father doing with that news report and his career?" He asks sounding a bit concerned.
"Well if he rips them up, then at least you read 'em first. And yeah, flying is pretty boss. You should learn how," Jill says as if it's only a matter of taking the right correspondence course. Finding the conversation more interesting than her book, she marks her place and sets it aside.
"Jill's right, flying is probably my favorite part of my powers, the whole bulletproof thing being a close second", Lock frowns at Jill, "Wait a sec, can you fly?". He sighs, "My dad is still here, along with my brother and mom, with the news report and the new laws, being a mutant or even someone with a known connect is a dangerous thing".
"I guess that's where I'm lucky, everyone I really care about is here so, they're in a safe place. Though I should call Connor and see how he's doing." Nicholas misses him. "I'm going to do what I can to really learn how to use my powers and recover as quickly as possible, I can just sit up in a room waiting…"
Jill arches an eyebrow at Lock. "Uh, hello? Vampire? Of course I can fly. Well okay… to be fair flying's not the first thing you think of when somebody says vampire, but yeah I can." She shifts to sit cross-legged in the deck chair, frowning. "I saw the thing on the news where they had everybody's picture. Stupid digital cameras." She seems genuinely unnerved but tries to continue anyway. "You… you know somebody's probably gonna come here eventually, right? I think it's, it's just a matter of time." The words and ideas are distasteful, and she shares them reluctantly.
Warlock sighs, "The thought of this place being targeted had occured to me yeah", he looks over at Nick, "I've been worried about Connor, he just disappeared". "Listen on the subject of this place being attacked I need to ask you guys to do me a favor".
"I'm sure we'd have heard if he wasn't okay, right?" Nicholas says sounding hopeful. "Yeah, Warlock showed it to us last night. I kind of know how it is for Ahmed and how it is for you, going out in public pretty much everyone's gonna know I'm a mutant from that. Even after this all blows over." He looks over at Warlock and nods. "Sure Lock, anything. What's up?"
The vampire wrings her hands in her lap, adding only, "The last time I saw Connor was when he did a black hole impression. I don't even have his number to call and see if he's okay." Brows furrowed with curiosity and worry, she looks to Warlock and waits for his question.
"I need to leave to do something and I was wondering if you'd cover for me with my family, don't let them know that I'm not here", Lock runs a hand though his hair, "It's really important"
Nicholas looks at Warlock for a bit. "Lock…just don't do anything stupid okay? Don't go after those guys by yourself. You know Quenton and I would go with you." Another way of saying 'you know Quenton and I want don't want you to leave us out of revenge'. "But yeah, I'll cover for you the best I can. And I have Connor's number, I can call him later."
Blinking red eyes, Jill gives Warlock a long look as well. "How are we supposed to do that, anyway? If they ask, we just say you're in the bathroom or something?" She exhales a little sigh that is more resignation than refusal. "Fine. Just don't do anything stupid, okay?"
Warlock shrugs, "Dunno, with my brother just point him at the nearest pretty senior, get my dad talking about music, mom's gonna be the only tough one, you got any vampire wammy?", he rolls his eyes, "Trust me, I'm being smart with this one".
Nicholas just watches Warlock for a bit and nods. "Okay, I just figured I'd tell them 'no I haven't seen him around'." He doesn't feel right about it but he knows he'd do almost anything for Warlock now. "What ever it is you're doing Lock, just, take care of yourself. If I found out you did something stupid…well…I'll think of something."
"What? Like the whole 'Look into my eyes' thing?" Jill asks, making little creepy claw motions with her hands as she says it. She shrugs and lets her hands fall to her lap. "Sorry. Not really, no. I dunno if that's just me, or if there's like different kinds of vampires, but I can't do that one. No bats, either." Her head cocks to the side to scrutinize Lock as if from a different angle. "And you can't tell us what it is, can you?" From the way she asks, she already assumes he can't or won't.
"I'm not doing anything stupid, it's actually pretty well thought out, we didn't make it though all that for one of us to die anyway", Lock shakes his head at Jill, "I can tell you, I just won't, at least not now anyway".
Nicholas nods to Warlock, he's not exactly happy about it, but he's got to respect his wishes. "Okay Lock. Best of luck in regards to what you're doing." He runs his right hand through his hair and looks up at the sky. "Things will never be the same again, will they?"
Likewise, the blonde vampire isn't pleased but doesn't make a fuss about it, pushing her sunglasses up to rest on the top of her head. "Yeah, well, if you change your mind, you've got our numbers." Unconsciously, she follows Nick's gaze up but only sees the underside of the patio umbrella. A little disappointed, Jill lets her gaze drop with a sigh. "No. I don't think it will be." She could have lied, but didn't.
Warlock smiles, "Thank you", he leans back following their gaze upwards, "Don't reckon they will, especially for everyone at this school and those who helped us out, nowhere to hide anymore, big secrets out, for us, the school and every mutant out there".
Nicholas nods to Jill's agreement. "But I'm not going to make that mean it's all going to be bad, I just, one day I'll get a good nights sleep without any nightmares." He says with a bit of a grin before looking at Warlock. "We gotta stick up for what we know is right."
"I was actually wonderin'," Jill begins hesitantly as if speaking to herself. The idea isn't fully formed yet, but she tries it anyway. "If like, maybe, you could just… leave the country somehow. Until it all blows over or… doesn't."
"What do you mean or Warlock, or all of us?" Nicholas says before shaking his head. "No, unless they have a way to get us out of here that doesn't involve a passport or anything. Even then, I'd want to stay here and fight. Maybe a bit part of it is for revenge but running won't make me feel better. Just safer maybe, even then, I'd constantly be thinking of what's going on here."
"Like everybody. The school's got like a bigass plane and everything…" Jill counters but appears to be souring on the whole idea and sorry she suggested it. "But that's… I-I dunno," she finishes feebly with a shake of her head.
Nicholas's eyes glow blue as he uses his powers to push his wheelchair closer to Jill so that he can reach down and take her hand. "It's okay Jill, whatever this is, we'll manage through it. I've been through too much not to and…and…and I just got you back so I can't let these guys take over the place. This is my home now, I have friends here who are pretty much the only family to me, I can't let them take it all away again Jill."
The girl's hand is a bit limp in Nick's grasp and Jill shakes her head again. "I just don't know how we're supposed to do anything about it. The law's unconstitutional but nobody seems to care about that. So what do we do, just hide inside the school and shoot anybody who tries to come up the driveway?"
Nicholas strokes Jill's hand lightly with his own and shrugs. "I don't know Jill, but I want to figure out something. I can't let them get away with everything they've done. I'm tired of being so afraid of them, I'm tired of them haunting my dreams making it so the only good nights sleep I've had since my parents died was when I was injured and am on drugs, I just….have to do something."
"I just wish I knew what to tell you." Almost reluctantly, she gives Nick's hand a firm return squeeze. "I don't want the school to get broken up. I don't wanna have to worry about all my friends' safety. I don't wanna run and I don't wanna fight." A sigh escapes her. "I just don't know."
"Don't worry about it Jill, well I mean not knowing what to tell you." Nicholas says bringing her hand up to give it a light kiss. "I felt the same way when trying to find the right words when you first got turned into a Vampire." He looks over at her with a worried sort of expression. "I don't know either Jill. I don't want to fight but I get the feeling I'm going to have to."
"Not yet, you won't," she replies, flicking a fingernail against the frame of Nick's wheelchair. So that's at least one thing she doesn't have to worry about for a week at best, or maybe only a few days, but it's something. "C'mon," she says and stands, breaking the moment with a sudden bit of cheerfulness. "Let's get somethin' to eat then I'll carry your laptop and stuff down for you. You don't have to go back right away, but maybe if your stuff's already there it won't suck so much."
"Don't worry, I don't plan on fighting or doing much of anything until these casts are off." Nicholas says as he's happy just to be off of them. "Dr Reyes says it'll be at least another week till I'll be able to get out of the medbay, she just wants to make sure I heal alright." He says breaking into a grin. "Something to eat sounds great, then maybe I can convince you to let me watch you play video games or something later." Since he can't really play them one handed and it's entertainment plus girlfriend time.
"If watching me play video games is your idea of fun, maybe Dr. Reyes really *does* need to let you out more," Jill teases, pulling her sunglasses down. She floats backwards across the grass at a walking pace, clearly showing off now. "And remember, we don't know where Lock is."
Nicholas shakes his head. "Haven't seen him all day." He says wheeling himself alongside Jill, using his powers to do so. He uses his good hand to hover over one of the wheels and 'push'. "I was left in a cell for a month without anything to do but talk to the guys, right now my idea of fun would be anything, though I rank watching you play video games high on the fun and relaxing meter right now."
Jill turns toward the school buildings, frowning at the reminder of his captivity, but doesn't say anything else about it. But if it would really make Nick happy, even for a little while, she'll just have to deal with having a backseat gamer.
