Xavier Mansion - Pallaton and Pryce's Room
The whole room has off-white walls and a dark brown carpet, as per the standard fare for all student co-ed rooms. The window in the centre looks out over the grounds, but otherwise gives the two occupants a view of the tennis court and lake.
Pallaton's half of the room has a bed larger than average but very basic. A cheap-looking computer with a large keyboard (to fit his size comfortably) sits on his desk, as well as a large bookcase over by the wall, complete with a large chair for him to sit in and small table and lamp next to it. Hanging from the cieling above his bed is what seems to be a dreamcatcher, with about ten feathers hanging from it on tassles.
Pryce's side of the room is quite the opposite of Pallaton's, instead having the latest high-tech computer system by his desk and a rather expensive-looking bed, not to mention some von Doom paraphenalia adorning the walls. The contrast of rich and poor in the same room can sometimes be a bit jarring…
A couple things have been bothering Owen Folger lately. Sure, he's been having a relatively good time with his new telekinetic powers and even the link to Erik, but the knowledge of the Bat being someone else's problem now bugged him enough to drag up some issues. Dressed in baggy shorts and a t-shirt, he's decided to go see someone he thinks might help. As such, he comes to a stop at the door leading to Pallaton and Pryce's room. Taking a breath, he lifts a hand and knocks.
Pallaton just seems to be relaxing in his room, lying on his bed and staring at the ceiling, watching the feathers on his dreamcatcher flit about in the wind. Pryce seems to be out of the room, so nobody else is here. At the knocking, Pallaton's ears twitch and he turns his head to the door. "It's open, come in."
Owen smiles as he opens the door and steps into the room. "Howdy, Pallaton," the teen greets, closing the door behind him. "Got some time tah talk about a couple thin's?" he asks, staying by the door for now in case the answer's no.
Pallaton nods his head, shifting himself so he's sitting on his bed rather than lying on it. "Sure. Pull up a chair. What can I help you with?" Despite what happened a few weeks ago, he does seem cheery. Maybe some weight's come off his shoulders?
Owen nods, telekinetically snagging a desk chair and moving it into place in front of Pallaton's bed. "Ah jus' wanted tah talk tah ya about a couple thin's. Like that rock thin' ya do. That's magic, right? How do ya do that?"
Pallaton watches Owen as the chair shifts over. Wasn't Owen a DarkForce use-oh, wait, the blob. Nevermind. He shakes that out of his head for now to answer the question. "It took years of training under my teacher. He was a retired mystic, but when I approached him to control the Earth, he said he would teach me, that he sensed I could do it. All I have to do is take in the magical energy in the atmosphere, then shape it to my will with gestures and speech that's relevant to me and the task in question. It isn't as simple as waving a hand saying 'Hocus Pocus', it really does take time. I mean, I've only just learned to shape it…" As if to prove that, he puts his huge hands together, whispering in a strange language and shifting his hands. After a minute, he opens it out to show a little rock Owen. Awww, isn't it cute?
Owen listens intently, leaning forward. He bites the corner of his lip as he hears that it's nothing easy. He hadn't expected it to be but there's always hope right. When Pallton creates the rock Owen, the flesh Owen jumps. "Woah. That's pretty cool," he says, smiling. "Can…your magic do other thin's or is it just like rocks and dirt?"
Pallaton shakes his head, the rock Owen crumbling to sand to be blown in the wind, then into nothing. "Earth in all it's forms alone. Sand, dirt, rock, mud… that kind of thing. Like I said, I can shape it, but only to a certain amount. Last time I tried to push it, I impaled myself, but at least now I have a sort of 'safety switch'. If I go too far, it all just disappears."
Owen perks slightly at 'mud' but quickly brushes the thoughts aside. The time for potential relaxing mud baths is later. "Oh…so it doesn' work on people then," he lets out a breath. "Ah'm glad ya'll won' be impalin' yourself anymore," he says. There's a pause and Owen glances away. "Alright…what Ah wanna ask ya next is a little personal…" he trails off.
Pallaton scratches his chin at the 'people' part… "Hmm, I've never tried attaching it to people before… I can't say. Maybe…" He looks like he was about to cast something, but Owen distracts him. "Hmm? What is it?"
Owen takes a deep breath. "Well…ya're a feral-type mutant right? Bein' all wolfy," he gestures vaguely. "Do ya…Ah dunno how tah explain this right but uhh…do ya ever feel like jus' actin' like a wolf? Like runnin' around and huntin' stuff?" he asks. "Sorry if its a bit too personal it's jus'…how do ya deal with all of it?"
Pallaton nods his head. "Yup, I do. Like when I play, I sometimes get a bit puppy-like. But it's started creeping into when I fight, and… I'm scared I'll hurt someone." He looks at his own clawed hands for a bit before continuing. "It's… It's not strong for me, so it's not too hard to keep under wraps, but I'm still scared of the time I do end up doing something I regret badly. I mean, let's face it. I'm strong and can punch through a wall if I wanted. Imagine that done with intent to harm. What I do do that seems to help is my rituals. I vent it every so often in the woods here, and every day I dance to honor my ancestors. It seems to work, overall… But again, it's still there. Not quite a split personality, more reverting to instinct."
Owen winces and looks away at the thouhts of hurting people. He's familair with it. Eventually he looks back up. "So…ya jus' go intah the woods for a ritual an' it helps ya'll control the instincts?" he asks. "So ya think somethin' like that…might be able tah help me if Ah manage tah get mah normal powers…an' the Bat…back?"
Pallaton looks to Owen and shrugs. "I'm not sure… the dances are more religious than to calm me down… I figure that doing them reminds me of my ancestors, therefore keeps me in a human mindset, but otherwise I just rough it in the woods ever so often. I'm not sure if that would help you, but it might…"
Owen nods. "Maybe Ah'll be givin' it a try sometime…" he trails off. "Ah may not have it right now but somoen else is stuck with that…thin'. And they shouldn' have tah be stuck with somethin' like that," he says quietly. "An' Ah probably already said this too much but…Ah'm sorry for what the bat did tah ya that time."
Pallaton shakes his head. "There's no need to apologize, I know you weren't in control. I think you were told of the details, yeah? Besides, it's done and over with. There's no use in dwelling on the past when the path before you is waiting. Sure, you need to know where you came from to know where to go, but it's not the most important thing."
Owen shakes his head. "Not much specific, jus' that ya'll and Mr. Parker-Mayfair fought it an' then everyone showed up at the end in time tah see mah naked butt," he says, managing a slight chuckle. "Still…if there's somethin' Ah can do tah make up for what the bat did, tell me. Still feel a bit bad about it hurtin' people…especially mah friends."
Pallaton shakes his head, resting a fuzzy hand on Owen's shoulder. "No, really, it's fine. I, uuh… got it into my head that maybe showing friendship would snap you back, so I tried to hug the bat…" He scratches his neck there, as if embarrassed. "It, uuh… didn't work and Scott chewed me out for it."
Owen winces at the chewing out. "Man…if only it were so easy tah get rid of the Bat…" he trails off. "Next time, jus' find Leo or Jared. Their powers can beat the Bat really easy."
Pallaton nods. "Yeah, they said so much. But at least we haven't heard
about any rogue bats in the area, so perhaps whoever has your powers now are able to keep control? Maybe you could find out who it is and ask how they did it?"
Owen nods. "Ah was thinkin' about that. But then again…Ah only overloaded an' went Bat every two weeks so there may still be time. Even less if they're not really usin' the Dark Force," he reasons. "But once Ah find 'em, Ah'm gonna find out…an' apologize for them havin' tah put up with that power…"
Pallaton nods. "I wonder what would've happened if I didn't get out in time… I think I got lucky, but part of me thinks I could have been human again, at least for a while."
Owen blinks a few times. "Get away from the green thing? Well…yeah. Ya'll woulda been without any powers like the rest of us. Then jus' wake up with new ones like we all did," he says. "Like Ah got telekinesis now…and this weird mental link tah Mr. Anderson."
Pallaton blinks, tilting his head. "Mr. Anderson? Who's that?"
Owen blinks a few times as well. "He's a teacher here. White hair, kinda weird, he used tah have magnet powers but now he's got gravity ones and this weird link with me."
Pallaton nods slowly. "Oh… I didn't know… What's he teach?"
Owen looks up. "Lets see…" he trails off. "Constitutional Law and some kinda history."
Pallaton nods slowly. "Oh… Classes I never really pay attention in." He chuckles. "That's probably why I didn't remember him."
Owen chuckles as well. "Ah'm no even sure if Ah'm in those classes," he admits. "If Ah am, Ah must sleep through it."
Pallaton nods, grinning. "Though with the mental link, now you have to pay attention. He might know if you're sleeping."
Owen laughs. "True enough but then again, Ah'll also know if he notices Ah'm sleepin' and be able tah wake up," he says. "But that'll get confusin' fast," he adds. "Jus' kinda weird…he can feel everythin' Ah feel and Ah can feel everythin' he feels."
Pallaton nods. "Mentally or physically speaking? I mean, if you feel sad, does he feel it? Or if I poke you, does he feel it?"
Owen looks up. "Well, we're still figurin' it out but Ah know thin's like feelin' sad go over and if ya'll poked me and drew blood he'd know Ah got hurt but like…Ah don' think he'd know that if Ah put mah hand on ya, Ah was touchin' ya," he says. He pauses a moment as his stomache growls. "Huh," he chuckles and blushes slightly. "Wanna join me down in the Cafeteria for somethin' tah eat?" he offers.
Pallaton nods slowly, then shakes his head. "Oh, no, I ate not too long ago. Thanks for the offer though. I'm just going to relax here for a while if you want to talk again later."
Owen smiles and nods. "Right. Maybe Ah will come by again in a bit," he says, standing. THe currently telekinetic stretches and moves to give
Pallaton a quick hug. "Thanks for talkin' with me, dude," he says. "Ah'll catch ya later," he says, floating towards the door.
Pallaton nods with a smile, returning the hug. "No problem. I can understand the need for an agony aunt that doubles as a teddy bear." He chuckles, then waves as Owen leaves.
