Xavier Mansion - Recreation Room
What was once the Parlor has been turned into a Recreation Room for the students. A nice plush carpet meets the light blue walls giving it a homey feel. A pool table at one end, a foos ball table at the other, and entertainment center with video game systems, movies, and of course, cable TV. Big comfy chairs and couches surround a coffee table for comfortable loafing. Long glass windows with a pair of French doors line one side of the room bringing in plenty of light during the day. The main rule in here is to clean up after yourself.
Cale is curled up on a bean bag chair in front of the big entertainment system, having claimed it once again for the night to watch anime on. Thankfully, it's rather empty in the rec room, getting close to 'lights out' hours for a school night, though nobody seems to be bothering him much about it; that might be because he's a good student to begin with, not a troublemaker. Regardless, it's quiet except for him, and late so others seem to have, well, already settled in wherever for the night.
The sound of Japanese coming out of the television is enough to attract the attention of Tara, a.k.a. Awesome Girl, a.k.a. That Weird Blind Girl Who Listens to Yaoi. She pauses in the doorway, with her head cocked as she listens to the anime that Cale is watching for a minute before she hazards a guess, "Soul Eater?"
Mew? Cale doesn't notice the voice for a few seconds, then seems to slowly react to it… "Tara? That was a good guess… aren't you blind? That's crazy," he answers finally, looking over at the girl that just enters. Still, not understanding Japanese he needs to be looking at it in order to get what's going on, and well, look at it he does! He seems to have been watching a lot lately, maybe because he's worried about how his /real life/ is going and needs an escape.
"Yeah, I'm blind," Tara says, as she moves into the room proper, to flop in one of the couches. (Not the one Cale is in.) "But, you know, there's more a TV show than just images." She shrugs, "Anyway. My brothers were really into anime and told me I could never enjoy it because I couldn't see. So I learned Japanese just to spite them."
"Wha?!" Cale blinks, "You know Japanese? That's awesome. I've always kinda wanted to learn it, but then, I guess every anime fan kinda does," the lizard boy smirks at that. "I guess I'm just a little too lazy to make it happen. Or I've got too much stuff going on." Probably a little of both.
Tara gives Cale a nonchalant shrug. "Enh," she says, "I'm not really into the action-y type anime. I like the romantic comedy stuff better since there's more dialogue. I mean, seriously. You've heard one explosion, you've heard them all."
"I like all kinds of anime!" Cale nods, "Well, both the actiony stuff and the romantic kinda stuff, like, I dunno…" He trails off, unable to actually name any romantic comedies off the top of his head. He's seen them though! For sure. Do not doubt him! "I guess this one's pretty actiony. But there's definitely some romanticism going on between the main character and her sidekick. For sure. She's pretty awesome, though. I wish I could be that awesome."
"Why not?" asks Tara, suddenly floating closer to Cale, all but literally hovering over him? "What's stopping you?"
"Well…" Cale blinks, "She's a girl… and I'm not! That's pretty awesome… I dunno," he shrugs, "Well, I mean aside from, she has magic scythe wielding superpowers and all that." Okay, he also has his own superpowers, but, that's besides the point! He's not magic. Then he blinks for a moment, realizing what all he just said before disappearing, color wise, into the couch. It's a good think Tara cannot see him! Or maybe not… "ANYWAY. Things are harder than just doing that. In real life."
Tara doesn't even seem like she catches his slip up. "No they're not," she insists. "Well, I mean, being awesome and superheroic, that is. Reaping people's souls is something that's really not an attainable goal, I think we can both agree." She does a lazy flip in the air so she's laying on her back with her head dangling upside down at his direction. "You know what makes people awesome and superheroic? It's not your powers," she says before lazily reaching out and poking Cale in the middle of his forehead. "It's this. People don't get to be where they are because of what God gave them. People get to be where they are because of what they decide to do with it." She pauses in thought before positing, "You want to put that in action? How about we go rescue your sister."
"What do you mean? I don't… really have any idea where she is, even! I snooped around the hospital database for a while, but all it says is, she was signed out legitimately… welllll…" he trails of, pondering some of the little bits in that that don't quite make sense while he stares, a little cross-eyed, at Tara's finger on his forehead. "But, if you have an idea. I mean. Of COURSE I want to rescue Amy! Worse than anything I have ever wanted before, ever!"
Tara rolls back over to rest her head in her hands. "So. Who signed her out?" she asks. "I mean, they just don't release teenaged girls to anybody, you know."
"Well, it was my uncle Baxter… he's a total jerk, I mean, he hates mutants. So it doesn't even make any sense. He wouldn't want her to live with him, and…" Cale trails off, sighing, "I just don't understand! I mean, what if he's done something to her - but, he's not even got a motive. Sure he hates mutants, but kidnapping, murder? To what end? I don't get it."
"Why don't you ask him," asks Tara. "I'll even come with you. I mean I'm just a helpless blind girl, what kind of threat could I possibly be?" Judging by the grin on her face the answer to that would be that she's about as tame as a bathtub full of piranhas.
"But… he lives in Missouri, that's like, a thousand miles away… Unless he's somewhere around here. I mean, she was signed out /here/ but…" Cale rubs his temples. "Would he have taken her back? Maybe they're still in New York…"
Tara looks thoughtful for a moment. "Missouri, hunh? Hmm. Well, we could always find somebody who cay fly the Blackbird out there and pay him a visit." She sighs despondently. "I keep trying to get somebody to teach me how to fly it, but nobody will."
"Well, it can't be that much harder than flying a computer kinda plane… but, how would you read the instruments? I guess…" Cale blinks, "Wait, Blackbird? As in, SR-71 Blackbird?" he blinks rapidly several times. "Anyway, I know exactly where he lives. We used to visit there all the time. I guess, even if he isn't there, we could go to his house and find some clues… and if he IS there…" he trails off, gritting his teeth. For the first time since he's come to Xavier's, he has a hateful, angry look on his face. "Then I guess that will work out for us."
"I think the SR-71 was based off an early model of ours, actually," says Tara. "It can, pretty much, fly itself. Regardless, let me see if I can get somebody to fly us out there and we'll play it by ear once we do."
"Omigod, that would be /awesome,/" Cale hugs Tara tightly without really thinking about it too much, "You have no idea. If that jerk did something to her, I'm gonna make him wish he'd never been born. I already hate his guts anyway. Anyway, you're gonna love Amy. She's awesome. You two would get along, you know, awesomely." His mindset seems to have basically completely changed. They are going to rescue Amy. There is no doubt. This will succeed. It has to succeed!
