Not At Xaviers

The road is twisting and tree-lined leading away from Xavier's, with the scattered houses tucked deep behind hedge-protected driveways and ornamental gates. The traffic is light, as people either seldom travel these roads or find more comfort locked into their homes. So it is usual that one would find a pedestrian walking along the twisting road, a backpack slung over her shoulders and skirt flipping against legging-clad legs with sturdy boots that look like they have many miles in front of them, and behind. She has sunglasses over her eyes, and her image inducer tuned to the blonde that looks like no one in particular.

It was late evening before James had finished packing up one of the school's vans. Having dotted his T's and crossed his Eyes on every required piece of paperwork needed to borrow a school vehicle, the hyena is making his way down a road towards his 2-week excursion near the Canadian boarder. Some would call it camping. He calls it 'getting the hell outta dodge.' Jinx is about to call is a near miss. Rounding a blind corner, a pedestrian's form is suddenly lit by the headlights, the vehicle swerving to miss—even though it would have done without help (albeit barely). Brakes bring the behemoth to a hard top, James and his image-induced form jump from the driver’s door, "Whoh, you okay? I didn't see you!" He's apologetic, sincere, worried….and suddenly familiar with the other as soon as her scent hit him, "Jinx?"

She jumps out of the way of the truck as soon as she feels the headlights tough her, and light up her startled face. She tumbles into a roadside shrub, and pulls herself upwards as the van stops. She brushes the leaves and sticks out over her clothes, grumbling about poor drivers… until he steps into view and she smells his familiar scent. "Uh… oh… hey James." Surprise, worry. She's been caught now. The school's security force has been sent to find her already, no doubt. She clears her throat and treads a twig out of her hair. "What are you doing out here?"

The look on human-James face asks the same question of Jinx. But, instead, she's told, "Avoiding wildlife, apparently." He offers help if she needs it, waiting for her to be settled before bringing up anything more. "Leaving for my trip. And you?" That latter part is asked almost sarcastically in that funny-guy way. That way that says almost doesn't need to ask: It's late. She's headed away from the school. And he knows that she is just as fed up as he is.

"Yeah, us skunks should stay off the road. It's way too easy for us to become pizza everyone 'enjoys' for a long time," she wrinkles her nose. At his question, she breathes a long sigh, looking down the road into the darkness. "I'm… taking a walk," she murmurs. It's not a lie, but the plain honest truth. "Don't right know where I will end up, but I figure maybe I can get there before the batteries die in this thing," she pats her chest, where the image inducer must lie.

James shakes his head, almost frowning, "Forge built those things. they'll outlast us. And there's probably a tracker in it anyways." He shrugs, "And if not, they have that Cerebral Palsy thingee in the basement that can find anyone…found me in Indiana. Probably found you in California." But the smile fades as he sees an opportunity for mischief, "You can, however, make it more difficult for them to come get you." He nods over to the van, "I'm heading North, about 7 hours from here. You can come with. At least until you piss me off."

She looks between him and the van, a slow pan of her head as she considers what he has said. "Yeah… I suppose you're right. They'll find me eventually, and 'persuade' me to return," she purses her lips lightly and kicks at the dirt with her boot. After a moment, she nods to the van. "You have enough food for two in there?"

James shrugs, "For now. I was gonna stop on the way and pick up everything else." He kicks at the ground, his scent a little weirder than it normally is around the girl, "You can go part way or all the way. I'll almost be in Canada. If you wanna go any further, I'll make sure you can." After all, having been around others like Robyn, he's well aware what some think about continuing their education at the school…and how taking a vacation in Afghanistan would seem relaxing. He narrows his eyes a little as he considers his destination, "Or, stay at the cabin I'm going to. I have up to 2 weeks. We can always tell Kenta we thought the other was gonna tell him you were going. And I’m in good with Emma.” Or so he thinks, “We won’t get in trouble."

She listens to the plan, nodding her head. "That makes a lot of sense. I'll do it," she nods finally, sealing the deal. She tucks her thumbs in her wasitband. "I have some money. I can pay for food at least. Maybe some time is all I need to clear my head and all, but…" she puffs a long breath that sums up the Xavier's experience in a nutshell. A soft shake of her head. "So yeah. I appreciate your

The would-be hyena shrugs, like always, and responds, "Meh…We're like teammates and stuff, right?" He turns heel and heads back towards the truck, "This thing has an iPod jack. I drive, you DJ. How about that?" He hops into the front seat and waits for her to take hers, "Sides….what can go wrong, right?"
