NYC - Mutant Town (Avenue A)
Mutant Town, also known as District X, has become a haven for mutants. This section of town doesn't care what you look like, accepting all mutants no matter what their appearance. Most of the businesses in this section of town are mutant run ranging from small convenience stores to clothing shops to restaurants to night clubs. The buildings here aren't the high rise buildings you might find in mid-town but most are about 5-6 stories high. Mutant Town might not be the most luxurious section of town, in fact it's fairly run down, but this section of where mutants are safe and welcomed regardless of race, religion and culture.
It is a sad day for Vance Astrovik. Father’s Day always gets him down, as his father is dead… at his hands. Dressed in a dark hoodie with jeans, Vance stands by a local construction site using his telekinesis to assist in building some rundown edifices. He is hovering in the air. In Mutant Town, it is ok to use your powers in the open, even though he is publicly known as a mutant and Avenger, due in part to his father’s death and his time in jail. Lifting ten planks and ten hammers and nails, the nails are being hammered into the planks without him lifting a hand.
The early evening finds Franky simply out and about like usual. In his ratty clothing and pushing a shopping cart filled with odds and ends it would be easy to simply overlook him as one of the city's homeless if it weren't for the sheer size of the man. Passing the construction yard he pauses as he sees the floating mutant and the various object moving about on their own. He stands and simply watches with a large dopey smile on his face.
Lowering himself to the ground, but still using his powers to have the hammers nail the planks to provide support for the rundown and abandoned building. He pats his stomach as he is hungry and has not eaten or even thought about eating. Vance ponders a place to eat so he walks about and finds Mutant Town surprisingly empty aside from the hobo with the dopey smiles. Vance sighs and approaches, “Hey there. I’m Vance. I don’t know the area too well and want to get something to eat. If you know any spots, I’ll get you some food as well.”
Franky is still watching the hammers when Vance walks up, when he hears him speak he looks down still smiling. "Ah hello der Mizshter Vance, hy iz Franky." He nods at the question and points down towards Avenue B. "Hy knowz zis town verry goot, goot plaze to eat iz der Bis.. bee… beeshtro down der street. Haz Verry goot things ta eat."
Kai isn't in Mutant Town for any particular reason other than to satisfy his inquisitive nature, people keep talking about the place so the teen can't help but check it out, he's dressed in a yellow t-shirt, dark blue jeans and red converse as has been the norm resently he has his earphones in listening to the song count the shadows, he turns onto the road Franky and Vance are on not quite noticing Vance yet.
Blinking a moment as Franky speaks to him, Vance nods as he cannot really place the accent. But he manages to understand after a few seconds on contemplation. “Oh a bistro own the street.” Vance looks in the direction that Franky pointed, “Would you like to come with me to eat? You look like you may be hungry. What is your name?”
Franky nods as Vance asks him about food "Yah Shelter iz full tonight, but iz hokay hy stay outzide before. Hy iz verry stronk, verry tuff. Zomting to eat vould be nize though, tank hyu." As his name is asked he smiles again and offers one hand "Hy iz Franky, Franky Shtein. Iz goot ta meet hyu."
As Kai gets further up the street he spots Vance talking to what looks like a homeless guy, ah this must be part of the volenteer work Vance was telling him about, "Hey Vance, erm hello homeless man, i'm assuming though, i apologies if that inaccurate", he smells homeless though.
Hovering up a few feet to match Franky’s height, Vance takes his hand, “Nice to meet you to, Franky. Let’s head to the bistro.” As he lowers himself to the ground to start walking, he hears Kai and smiles, “Hey Kai. Kai meet Franky Franky meet Kai.” He introduces the two, “We were just going to grab something to eat. What brings you down by Mutant Town?”
Franky shakes Vance's hand in a loose grip, as though he's afraid of hurting the other man. As Kai walks over he releases the hand and gives a wave as Vance introduces him. "Hello Kai, iz goot to meet hyu." He heads back to where he left his shopping cart when Vance talks about getting somthing to eat, pushing it back over to the pair.
Kai can't place Franky's accent either but he doesn't have any trouble making out what the man is saying, "It's good to meet you too Franky", he looks to Vance and shrugs, "Not really sure, just curious i guess, people keep talking about this place, i thought i'd have a look".
As Franky goes to fetch his cart. Vance nods to Kai, “Well. I’m glad you are here. I’m working on helping refurbish a few buildings. You can help if you like. And who other than me, has mentioned Mutant Town to you.” Vance smiles when Franky gets here, “Shall we, gentlemen?”
Franky nods and begins to move down the street towards the lower end of the avenue "Iz not far, hyu ken showz hyu vhere it iz no problemz." As continues down the sidewalk he whistles slightly off key… the theme to sesame street?
"Just a couple of people i've met since i moved to New York and some kids at school spoke about it, though not really in the best light", Kai considers the idea of helping build but that would probably end up with him revealing his other talents, as he watches Franky walk away he raises an eyebrow, "Is that the theme to to Sesame Street?"
Nodding as Kai speaks, he too raises his eyebrow when Franky starts to whistle. “Yeah that does sound like the theme to Sesame Street. Do you like Sesame Street, Franky?” Vance looks to Kai, “You know that show has changed a lot from when I was a kid. Apparently it’s worldwide now and they even have an HIV positive puppet in the South African Sesame Street. Much more progressive, next thing you know they will say Burt and Ernie are gay and kill Maria off.” He shakes his head.
Franky turns and looks back at the pair when the question is asked. He smiles an nods "Yez I vatch it every morning at der shelter, iz helpinz me vit my counting and reading. Gotz bookz en shtuff for dat too but show iz alvays my favorite."
Kai watched the show for about two weeks when he was little to be shown the lessions normal children learn he doesn't know much about the program resently, "That sounds a bit much for children, unless you want them to grow up faster, there could be some advantages", he's unsure what to say to Franky, "Thats… good?"
“I agree. It’s a bit much, but that is why I never really cared for the show.” Vance shrugs, “Though I do believe it is educational. All those shows are Sesame Street, 1, 2, 3, Contact, Romper Room, Reading Rainbow, etc.” Upon reaching the bistro, he telekinetically opens the door and keeps it open for his friends.
