Westchester - Parker-Mayfair Home - Kitchen
A kitchen. Undecorated, but with all the necessities.
"Gonna be a comic convention next week," Eddie Parker-Mayfair comments idly. He's dressed in jeans and a Hawkeye & Mockingbird t-shirt and sitting at the kitchen table this evening. With his laptop open and in front of him, Eddie's scrolling through the usual superhero related message boards he browses. "Wonder if Ricky'll wanna go…"
Bacon, that is the one thing that anyone in the Parker-Mayfair home will think of if they take a breath. The reason, of course, is because Jared has just finished cooking several strips of the stuff and the smell does not go away. While Eddie is checking out the SuperHero message boards and updating Jared on things in them the tall teen cooks. Wearing a black T-Shirt and jeans but bare footed Jared starts to lay out the strips of bacon he fried over some grilled chicken breasts he has set up in a glass pan. "Oooh, haven't been to a con in a while. Missed the last couple of San Deigo comic cons for various reasons. Hmm, Wonder if Dai would want to come too?"
Eddie lets out a thoughtful noise. "Maybe. I bet him and Ricky might
like Artists' Alley," he says, just glancing at the name. "I've never been to a con. What are they like?" he asks curiously. "And…is cosplay mandatory?"
Jared grabs the mushrooms he had sauteed a moment ago and starts piling them on top of the chicken breasts as well. "No, Cosplay is not manditory. Never did any of that myself. The couple Mom took me too were fun, people everywhere, everything you could think of to do with comics for sale, rent or display. Not to mention people playing everything form vidoe games, to table top, and LARPs…"
Eddie's eyes go wide, that fanboy spark present. "But if we went we could totally dress up, right? As like…Avengers?" he asks. Squirming in his seat. "Man…we should ask 'em if they wanna go!" he says. There's a pause and Eddie blinks. "What're you making, Bro?"
Jared snickers a little and can almost feel Eddie go fan boy wihtout watching as he grabs some shredded cheese. "Smothered chicken…marinated the chicken in honey mustard, got bacon and sauteed mushrooms and cheese. Just got to pop this in the over long enough to melt the cheese and it is ready. Also go some salad and rolls done." Jared may normally be all for the healthy foods, but cheese is one of those things he feels you can never have enough of as he piles it on. "Sure we can dress up. Team cosutmes usually get more attention, question is who goes as which Avenger?"
Eddie nods. "THat sounds really good," he says. "How long is it gonna take to melt the cheese?" he wonders. The power booster then goes all thoughtful. "I don't know. There are a bunch I'd like to be…"
Jared nods and slips the pan that has two of the chicken breasts into the oven while he goes to grab some aluminm foil to cover the other small pan so he can save it for later when the Dads get home. "Should be just a few minuets. Hmm, I kinda like Captain America and Hawkeye myself."
Eddie smiles and nods again. "Could always try the Young Avengers too," he chimes. "Man…so many choices!" he chuckles. "Think I'd look good as Speed? Or maybe…umm…ooh! Spider-Man!"
Jared hmms as he looks Eddie over and grins. "You could make a good Speed, especially when you get excited and start talking a mile a minuet. Maybe if you do that, we can dress Ricky up as Patriot or Wave, and try talk Dai into going as Wiccan and Hulkling with me?"
Eddie grins, blushing slightly. "Ricky'd make a good Wave or even Rebound or Vision," he says. "And you'd be an awesome Hulkling, Bro. Did ya know I met him a couple times? And when we were doing the time travel thing I got to mimic his powers."
Jared laughs, "That is awsome. I only got to meet him the one time, when I was in the future. Apparently he was working out of the Avenger Tower with Iron man. Passed him in the elevator just after I landed amongst the next generation of Young Avengers in thier version of a Danger Room. Iron Man's equipment actually recognized me…and apparenly the future me was in the middle of chasing down a group of kids that had stolen a jet."
"That is so cool!" Eddie exclaims. "Man…I wish I could meet Iron Man. I wonder if I could mimic his armor…" he trails off. Going thoughtful for a few moments, Eddie turns back to Jared. "What were the future Young Avengers like?"
Jared shrugs as he checks out the chickens real quick and decides that they still need a little time. "Can't really say, did not get much time to talk to them. Kinda landed, the whole thing ended, and Iron Man got them out of there and wqalked me up to his lab where he gave me the bits to fix the time machine."
Eddie nods, looking at the computer quickly. "Probably didn't want to risk messing with the timeline."
Jared nods, "Yeah probably why he did not say anything after I commented on apparently either becomming Cyclopse or Wolverine. Hmmm, I feel like I should be doing something still but no idea what it is." Jared shakes his head and moves to grab a small bottle of Cranberry Juice out of the fridge to drink.
Eddie blinks a few times. "What do ya mean?" he asks. "Like…college or a job?" he wonders. "Or more school?"
Jared blinks and eyes Eddie, "I mena with supper. I keep feeling like there is something I am missing or forgetting to do. I just hate the waiting on the cheese to melt without having some last thing to work on. Although a job would be cool, give me something to do that feels like I am actually earning some cash instead of jsut having hte Dads dump way to much of it on me."
Eddie jumps and then blushes, looking rather embarrassed. "I dunno what else there is to do. I'm not as good at cooking as Dad…I just know how to do what he's taught me," he admits. "I was talking with Dad the other day about jobs and what I wanna do when I finish school. Couldn't figure any of it out…"
Jared nods at Eddie. "Well what kinda things do you like to do, or are you good at? Me, I was thinking maybe looking into getting a part time job at a hospital if I can find one…or just doing the candy striper thing."
Eddie squirms a little. "Bro…all I've ever wanted to be was a superhero," he explains quietly. "And for years I didn't think I could be anything but a street urchin. Don't know what else I could do…" he sighs. There's a pause. "At a hospital? Wouldn't your powers like…give away you're a mutant or something?"
Jared nods and hmms. "Well even Super Heroes need to have some other skills they can fall back on. You could always work on an acounting or law degree. Heh, you could end up the go to lawyer for the Super Hero community if you go prelaw." Jared grins as he gets up to pull the glass pan with supper in it out of the oven. "You might think that, but remember people go to Hospitals to get well. My powers only heal at a slow speed when I don't touch someone, so it just means people will get better a little faster than expected, and any jobs for an unskilled teen are gonna keep me moving all over so I won't be around any one sick or injured person too much."
Eddie frowns. "I'm not that smart…" he trails off. "Don't think I'd do too well as a lawyer anyway," he says, scratching his head. Eddie's a bit too idealistic for the law community, he just doesn't know how to say it. The booster then nods, looking up thoughtfully. "That does make sense…"
Jared shakes his head, "Thats bull Eddie, you are more than smart enough to be a lawyer. Although I guesse you might be a bit of an idealist for normal law, and of course I would have to disown you if you took up malpractice law." Raised by a Doctor Jared has certian views on the kinda lawyers that sue Doctors. "Hmm, you could always get involved with charities that help people, like a soup kitchen…although those tend to not have any paying jobs."
Eddie looks shocked at the notion of being disowned. "Okay, no malpractice!" he squeaks. He then shrugs. "I just don't know. I was thinking about being a doctor like Dad is but I don't think I'd be all that good at that," he says. "Guess I'll just focus on getting through school first."
Jared transfers the first of the smothered chicken breasts into a plate as he hears Eddie squeek. "Sigh, Joke Eddie, its a joke. Even if you joined the enemy I could never disown you. Hmm, I don't know. I am not that great with the whole emotional dealing with people thing…but you could make a great psychiatrist."
Eddie shrugs. "I'm good at listening but not all that good at actually helping people talk about that stuff," he says. "Figuring out the future is hard."
Jared nods as he slides Eddie his plate, "Harder than going there."
Eddie blinks as Jared speaks and slides him food. There's a pause before Eddie starts laughing.
