NYC - Mutant Town (Avenue A)

Mutant Town, also known as District X, has become a haven for mutants. This section of town doesn't care what you look like, accepting all mutants no matter what their appearance. Most of the businesses in this section of town are mutant run ranging from small convenience stores to clothing shops to restaurants to night clubs. The buildings here aren't the high rise buildings you might find in mid-town but most are about 5-6 stories high. Mutant Town might not be the most luxurious section of town, in fact it's fairly run down, but this section of where mutants are safe and welcomed regardless of race, religion and culture.

After hearing that one of his former students went missing today, the same way that some of his current students went missing, Kenta has decided to come down to Mutant Town, at the request of Xavier's, to see if he could find anything. Standing on the sidewalk, he looks up at a brick building with confusion. "Why is there no police here?" He mutters outloud.

There's a faint glow of orange as a cigarette is inhaled, illuminating the scruffy face of Lucas. He's wearing his black leather padded outfit, including the jacket, with a dark gray shirt beneath it. His heavy black boots look like they'd rather hurt if one was kicked by them. He exhales the smoke, his free hand buried deep in his pant pocket, as he steps a bit closer to Kenta. "Reckon you're far from where y'all should be," he says kind of flatly, looking his former mentor up and down, almost sizing him up.

"Why? I'm a mutant, and this is mutant town isn't it? Also I'm born and raised New Yorker." Kenta responds without looking at Lucas as first, but once he thinks he's seen enough of the front of the building, which is pretty much nothing, he looks at his former assistant. "So, you're back in the area Lucas, welcome back to New York. I hope you've been well in whatever you've been doing." He says, obviously other things preoccupying his mind.

Lucas shrugs, taking another drag off his cigarette and looking at the building. "Just odd to see y'all so far from school, is all." He sniffs, looks back at Kenta then. "Ah'm fine," he offers. "Why are you so interested in this buildin'?"

Seeing Lucas smoke kicks Kenta's nicotine addiction into gear and he reaches into his pocket to pull out one of his own hand rolled cigarettes, lighting it up. "Well, a lot's happened in the last few days, there have been several attacks of mutants covered up to make it seem like we're terrorists. Also a few of my students have been taken by this group called the Church of Humanity, there's been quite a bit about this on the news." He takes a long drag off his cigarette before telling Lucas more. "I'll tell you since you two were friends back at school, Connor went missing as well today. They attacked him here, at his apartment. Rashmi and Robyn are somewhere safe since the three all live here."

Lucas looks once more at the destroyed buiding. "Church of Humanity, huh." He smirks, "Musta finally figured out we're better'n them. Didn't think it'd be packaged like a religion, though." He furrows his brow a little, taking another pull from the smoke. "Rashmi's okay?" he asks, looking at Kenta then. One never really gets over their first love.

Kenta looks over at Lucas and raises his eyebrows at him. "When did you start picking up those ideas?" There's definitely some disappointment in his voice. "From what I heard, she's okay. So is Robyn. Not sure where they are now, since Rashmi and Robyn aren't students anymore but Connor, he was teaching there so we're trying to figure out what happened before things get really out of control." He then looks over at Lucas. "So what's brought about this change?"

Lucas drops the butt to the ground, stepping on it, and then flexes his left hand as he shrugs, "Ah grew up. Seen how we're treated." He shakes his head a bit, "Ah ain't gonna be pushed around no more. You shouldn't be either. If they want to push, then Ah'll push back." He pushes both his hands into his pockets then. "My paw was killed by a bunch of norms with guns, scared of the future, you know." He shrugs once more, "Whatever. Anyway… Where do y'all think Connor is? Maybe Ah could help."

There's a bitter sort of chuckle that escapes Kenta. "You have no idea how lucky you are. Trust me, you're not some lab rat used only for entertainment purposes. Believe me, I'm not pushed around. This world…" He looks around and takes another drag. "Well, it's still in one piece and not over run by aliens. Anyway, I know what it's like to lose someone you love, it's tough, but the pain eases with time." It did for him. "Honestly, we're not sure where Connor and the others are, that's why I'm here, looking for clues. I have a feeling though that the Church is around, keeping an eye on things as well. We'd be happy to have you help but not a clue where to start."

"Ah ain't lucky," Lucas says flatly. He looks back at the building and sighs. "Doesn't Connor's powers leave behind some kind of energy field? Somethin' we could scan and trace?"

"The grass is always greener." Kenta says shrugging a shoulder. "I don't know Lucas, he might but it all depends on if he used them I think. Also how long does this energy field last? I know Emma is going to be using Cerebra to try to find them, and we know the Church of Humanity is behind it but, man these kids don't deserve this."

Lucas furrows his brow once more, "Deserve what?" he asks, with a bit of concern. "What are they doin' to them?"

"I don't know Lucas, just, a couple of the kids have had it rough enough as it is, and the last thing they need is to be taken hostage by a couple of anti-mutant nut job extremists. What's worse, is we believe most of them were targeted, which makes sense." Kenta says tossing the butt of his cigarette away. "All of you kids, if I could give you a better life I would but….life is rough for us."

Lucas shakes his head, and he smirks, "It doesn't have to be. We fight this, and we force change. Our kids won't have to live persecuted, Kenta. There ain't no reason why we have to bow to those people." He sighs, "Targeted? Why?" He looks around, "Y'all got anything else to go on?"

"Don't know, we just don't know. So many unanswered questions." Kenta says looking back at the building. "Noone is bowing to anyone Lucas and Xavier's has been fighting it for years." He sounds disappointed as he says the words, knowing what Lucas is getting at. "You can't always fight fire with fire. Anyway I have to head back to my folks place and make sure Armande's okay." He puts a hand on Lucas' shoulder. "Good to see you're still alive, take care of yourself. You know Xavier's always has an open door for you."

"Xavier's way isn't working!" Lucas snaps. He calms himself, quickly, shaking his head. "Ah ain't here to argue with you. Look… Ah just…" He sighs. "If y'all hear anything about Connor, let me know. Ah'll keep my ears out, too."

Kenta looks at Lucas for a while and shakes his head. "Sorry you feel that way. If we hear anything, we'll let you know. Take care." He says as black dark force wings erupt from his back and Kenta takes to the skies.
