The Future - The Underground - Gathering Area

Hidden in the maze of tunnels is the open area that the mutants have turned into their haven, their home. Not wanting to risk electricity being detected down here, there are battery powered and gas powered lights leaving the place dark and damp. At least three mutants are always on guard down here at the entrance to the mutant camp and secret passwords and codes are needed to get into this room. Theres a large door with a large piece of wood barricading it as those down here dont take any chances.

It's nearing midday on another glorious day in the mutant underground. Except, Kael thinks it's the afternoon as he just gets switched off of guard duty; another mutant taking his place before he goes to sit down at a vacant table. A small meal sitting there; brought to him by the fellow who replaced him up front. The aerokinetic rests his head in one hand as he lazily picks through the soup. Mainly just swirling the spoon around with wind.

It's a rare day today! Someone was able to come through and bring some vegetables to the base. Fresh potatoes, mushrooms, carrots and celery. So right now Armande is sitting by the soup cutting up the vegetables as a job they've given to do. As Kael walks over towards him, Armade's face lights up. "Hey Kael!" He says excitedly as it's his mentor, the one whose been training him with his air powers. "Whens the next lesson gonna be?"

Kael lifts his head up and looks over with a warm smile; a sight that's becoming more and more rare for him. "Hey, Armande. Well, when're you done with cutting those up?" He grins a bit before he takes a bite of his soup, he's hungry but he's still listening. Course, that smile gets a bit wider when he gets a mouthful of vegetables.

"We got lucky, I guess there are plenty of places down in South America people can get stuff." Armande says as he continues to cut. "I can get one of the others to finish?" But then he knows the dirty look he'll get from Uncle Jono later. He can't help but take a piece of carrot as he cuts them up. "I know, it's been a while since we've had real veggies, I mean besides Jono's garden."

Kael hms a bit, letting the spoon hanging from his mouth a bit as he thinks. He pulls it out before he swallows his food and he asks a few seconds later. "Just how much more do you have to cut up?" He smirks a bit and says, "If I could fly that long, I'd be able to do that. Chances are Chloe got tired of not having these." Anything is possible.

Armande points to the pile and there's about two more carrots, five more potatoes and a handful of mushrooms. "Not too much more." He says using a combat knife to cut them up. "Jono says once I've learned enough with my powers I can start helping on food runs and stuff." he says as it's common knowledge the kid gets bored down here and has read every book he can…twice.

Kael has been told of that, and he still chuckles at the thought of it. It kinda reminds him of himself when he was younger. "Well, scoot over and I'll help ya." He picks up his bowl, and moves closer; pulling his own knife out as he sits back down nearer the pot. "And thats why I'm helpin' ya. Could use another air bender up there to help."

"Air bender….I think I remember that show from when I was a kid. I used to watch it with Grandma and Grandpa while Dad was at work at Xavier's." Armande says as he continues to cut. "So what's it like out there? I haven't been up in a long time….is it as bad as everyone says?"

Kael smirks. "I used to watch it, had all of the DVDs of it until the school went up." He starts to cut up the mushrooms, dropping them into the pot after holding them with a small updraft of wind. "It's dangerous out there, definitely. You never know when something is going to happen." Which is why they keep the young ones down here.

"You know his body is down here?" Armande begins. "Captain America…they're hiding it I heard. It's kind of scary thinking about that in the base here. I had nightmares." Armande admits as Kael is one of the few people he can confide in. Kael and Uncle Jono. "Also I heard DJ was there, the Hunter who killed Dad. He was there at the execution."

Kael nods softly. "Aye, I heard it was. But I've only seen it in a passing glance myself." Kael rarely stops moving down here, always heading to do something. He sighs a bit, "Sadly, I wasn't there. I was elsewhere saving some jarheads who went out on their own ill equipped from two hounds." He looks over at Armande as his cutting slows up a bit, "How're you holdin' up though."

"Bored mostly, I miss Dad a lot but I try to keep busy with things here." Armande says as it's obviously there is so much a kid can do in here all day without actually being out there on the field some how. "They keep telling me I'm helping by cooking and by learning first aid. So I guess that's what I'm doing." He says dropping a handful of potatoes in the soup.

Kael drops off the last bit of mushrooms that he was cutting up as he says, "You are helping. Honestly, I'm not the best at first aid, but I still can dress wounds." He cleans his knife off and slips it back into the sheath on his shin. "Which reminds me, I need to see how far along you're getting. Might be time to try and teach you the fundamentals of compressed air."

Armande jumps up and smiles at Kael, "You mean I get to learn something new?" Though he doesn't ask the question he always does….yet. When do I get to fly. "Well I can dress wounds but I don't like the idea of just sewing people up like I watched Volk do to himself and Daisuke's leg had to get all sewn up." He shudders which shows he's really not ready for battle outside as much as he says otherwise.

Kael smirks a bit, "Yeah, ya might get to learn something new." The shudder makes him hm softly, he knows that he isn't ready. But during the current state of things, there're no easy way to immerse someone into a war. "Honestly, I get a bit squeamish when I have to get sewn up or have to sew someone up." Not really, but it's to connect.

"It's just that it's so….." Improve, everything they use is improvisational medical supplies from the whiskey disinfectants to metal splints and duct tape bandages. Armande finishes cutting the last piece of carrot and stands up. "Okay teach, I'm ready to learn whatever you can throw at me, so can I be closer to learning how to fly."

Kael takes the last bite of his meal before he scoots back on the bench. "Alright. Sit here." He pats the part of the bench in front of him and waits for him to sit down. "Now, I don't know what uses you'll find for this, but I find it useful in many ways." Like launching rubble at cannon speeds. He holds his hands about half a foot apart and forms an orb of wind. "Now I want you to do this, and then. Compress it. Make it as small as you can get."

The orb of air is one of the things Armande has mastered as he tends to use that often when he's bored to just play with air. "Okay so compress it." He says as he starts to push the ball of wind inward and at first it starts to compress, his face set in concentration but eventually he pushes too much and the orb kind of 'pops' and dissipates. "Damn it."

Kael smirks. "That's a good start!" The orb resting between his own hands compressed down to the size of a marble before he lets it explode in a small burst of wind towards him. "Once you can hold the wind still while compressing it, you can actually launch things with it." That'd probably explain why Armande sees Kael sometimes with spikes in his hands.

"Wow." Armande says as he sees how small Kael can get his orb of wind, Armande would be lucky with softball size. "So how do you launch things with it, just let the small bit of air shoot forward, using the force? What if you mixed something in the wind and fired several things at once, is that possible?"

Kael says, "Well, I have wind hold it up. Steadying it as I compress the air behind it." He reaches behind him, pulling one of the spikes nestled on the back of his vest in front of him. It looks like a railroad spike cause it is. He floats it above his hand with a swirl of wind. "Like this. Then I aim, and fire."

To say Armande is impressed is an understatement. "I'll be practicing that." And he will be too, every chance he gets. He's about to start up again when someone calls him for his help with something. He scowls and stands up. "Thanks Kael but I gotta go. I guess they need help loading supplies." And being one of the young men whose around all the time, he's called a lot for that sort of thing.

Kael gives a wave towards the kid. "Don't push yourself too hard!" With that, he spins that spike in his hand before he wanders off down the tunnels. Probably off to his bunk to think about things. Or take target practice at the walls.
