Mental Mishaps

Rating: R

Xavier Mansion - Recreation Room

What was once the Parlor has been turned into a Recreation Room for the students. A nice plush carpet meets the light blue walls giving it a homey feel. A pool table at one end, a foos ball table at the other, and entertainment center with video game systems, movies, and of course, cable TV. Big comfy chairs and couches surround a coffee table for comfortable loafing. Long glass windows with a pair of French doors line one side of the room bringing in plenty of light during the day. The main rule in here is to clean up after yourself.

Its Friday evening and Topher is laying on a couch in the Rec Room, hes wearing white and grey camouflage shorts, a white Life and Glory t-shirt, grey coverse, a white fabric belt, a black eye and has his earphones in playing his music very loudly. He has his eyes closed and is consentrating on the lyrics in the music, on the table in front of the couch is a notepad with lyrics for a song he is writing on it.

Coming into the Rec Room is Leighton. She's not used to things like this. Well, she IS when she's in the right form. She's still not comfortable in a girl's body. As she walks in, she's wearing a short-sleeved top and shorts. Her hair is pulled back into a ponytail right now, and there are a pair of large, knobby bones sticking out of her upper shoulders.

Topher sighs as he sences Leighton's mind enter the room and his headache intensifies, he opens his eyes to check who it is, not recognising her he closes his eyes again.

Leighton isn't one to interrupt really, so she moves over to the side and looks at the assortment of video games that the school has to offer. Pulling out a shooter, she moves to the side to start playing, keeping the volume down.

Topher sits up unable to go back into his state of semi-conciseness due to the increase in his headache, he picks up his pad and starts working on his lyrics again, as he works he begins singing along to the song he's listening to, "She lives in a fairy tale, Somewhere too far for us to find, Forgotten the taste and smell , Of a world that she's left behind".

Leighton plays video games like a guy. She hears the singing and looks over her shoulder. "Hi." She says calmly. She tilts her head. "Don't know you yet." Of course, she may not realize that there are headphones in.

Topher looks up when Leighton speaks to him, his eyes are black, he may not have heard her but he did feel the thought go through her mind, "Hello, dont know you either".

Of course, the first thought is, ~I try not to be a dick, and the first response I get is dickish. Go figure.~ But then, that is how Leighton sees it. She turns back to her game, a little irritated, but she'll let it flow over, most likely.

Topher grins when Leighton decides his responce was dickish, "It wasn't", he says calmly, since trying to keep people out of his head his powers have grown stronger, he can now read surface thoughts, even though he is consentrating on keeping thoughts out some still get through.

"What?" Leighton says, growling as she turns around. "I didn't say anything to you." She says, point blank, just glaring. She waits, watching Topher's every move. She's got her ideas… considering the school… and she doesn't LIKE the idea that's in there. Of course, the idea was that it was purposeful.

Topher looks up at Leighton, "It wasn't a dickish reasponce, its just how i talk", 'great someone else who doesn't like me', he thinks to himself.

"Oh. But how did you know about that?" Leighton asks, cleanly as she places the controller down. "And a lot of people here seem to be dickish. It's a natural response. Oh, look at the girl with the bones." None of that has actually happened. It's just her current mindstate.

Topher sighs, "Im a telepath, you thought it and i heard it", he adds, "People here are not dickish, and i garente the no one has thought, Oh, look at the girl with the bones".

Some of the thought processes in her head don't come from herself, but from the personality of someone else lodged inside her right now. "Bullshit." She says plainly. "And what are you doing getting into people's heads without their permission. That's against the rules." At least, according to the way that they were shown to her.

Topher nods, "It is against the rules, but i cant turn off my power so i constantly have other peoples thoughts in my head, i cant always keep them out", he hates his power as its constantly causing trouble.

"Oh." Leighton says. "That… I can actually understand." She says, reaching back and placing a hand on a bony knob. "Still. Some people here ARE dicks."

Topher shakes his head, "No they're not im probably the only dick here".

"You haven't met that kid with the big metal gloves. Making fun of the kid that can't help that he's… kinda like an animal." Leighton says with a nod.

Topher shrugs, "Haven't met either of them, but ive done worse", hes still going through his punishment for that.

"Oh. The animal kid seems kinda ok. He was hanging around Dallas." Leighton says with a nod. "That's all I know about him just yet."

Topher just goes silent and looks away when Dallas is mentioned.

Leighton just shrugs and goes back to her game. Nothing she can say.

Topher looks back at Leighton, "the voice you think in doesn't match your talking voice, any idea why that is?"

"What do you hear?" Leighton asks, trying to figure that out. "And probably because this isn't my natural speaking voice."

Topher shrugs, "Its just the thought i heard before was in a different voice, what is your nateral speaking voice?"

"Male." That's the only way to explain it. Leighton shrugs. "Despite the… " She motions over her chest and further. "I'm SUPPOSED to be a guy."

Topher nods, "ok, when did that happen?"

"When the bones grew in. When the girl who saved my ass saved me." Leighton says. The image in her mind is of a woman who looks a lot better, but very similar to some pictures around the mansion. Marrow.

Topher sits forward, "So you replicated her DNA and mixed it with your own, have you tried doing it again but on a guy?, you might look more like yourself".

"I don't know how." Leighton says. "I've touched people and not gotten anything." She considers while thinking about things.

Topher nods, "But have you touched someone and tried to copy their DNA?"

Leighton considers before reaching out a hand to touch Topher. Hey, he suggested it. That means he's willing. At least in Leighton's mind. She pushes mentally, but can't make anything click.

Topher grabs her wrist to try and help her make the connection, he wants to help, to make up for the things hes done.

Leighton gasps slightly. She blinks, but there's no connection there. There's no instant way to activate the mimicry. It's… different. There's a tie linking her, though, a very thin mental chain tying her to someone in Canada… or at least in that direction.

Topher headache increases to a very painful level as he gets flashes of Leighton's mind, he moans in pain and cluches his head, several glass objects in the room explode.

"Dude, calm down. It's ok." Leighton says suddenly, looking around for a teacher… any teacher. She doesn't know what to do in this situation.

Topher lets go of Leighton and falls to the floor, he pulls himself back up onto the couch, "Whoa, you got more than just DNA from that woman", his noes has started bleeding.

Without regard for the clothing, Leighton pulls a bone out of her shoulder and uses the bone knife to cut a piece of her shorts off to offer it as a handkerchief. "Are you ok? You sounded hurt." She's worried. After all, it's probably partly her fault.

Topher takes the makeshift hankerchief and tries to smile in thanks, "Im ok, I just got a chunk of your mind when we touched, and the pain is a side affect of my powers, sorry if i scared you".

Leighton is standing there, still holding the bone dagger as she breathes a sigh of relief. "Ok, good. What do you mean I got more?"

Topher nods still holding his head, "You have a psychic link with the woman who's DNA you copied, i got flashes of somewhere in Canada".

"That's where I'm from. Maybe it's my memories." Leighton says with a shake of her head. "I don't think we're actually… linked. Maybe it's the genetic thing."

Topher nods, "Your probably right, but you did take on some personality trates of that woman".

Leighton stops to think about it. It's possible, but she doesn't know. "I didn't used to skulk and hide. But, I thought it was from being a girl all of a sudden."

Topher laughs, "It is a girl thing i guess".
