NYC - Hell's Kitchen

The rough neighborhood in Midtown West New York known as Hell's Kitchen almost has a darker tone to it. Once you step into this neighborhood the city takes on a different feel, the buildings are shorter but everything feels darker. There is real grit to this part of town where many of the New York City criminals see to make their home.

He'd been seeing this kind of thing almost every night in Hell's Kitchen, with this area being the buffer zone between mutant town and the rest of the city the church of humanity and it's goons have been turning this neighborhood into a war-zone in the past weeks. Though there was something different about this one. Three Mutant teens were ambushed by about a half dozen men carrying weapons and some fool dressed like a minister that's been spouting off like it's Sunday service the entire time. He watched the first mutant get hit by one of the Darts he'd heard about online, watched the panic in his eyes as his powers failed. These weren't your standard Friends of Humanity thugs.. these were purifiers.

It was time to even the odds.

As the men advanced on the new powerless mutants there was a clattering of metal as a pair of canisters landed between them. An ear-splitting bang and blinding flash erupted through the alleyway followed by a thick haze of stinging vapor. Flash-Bangs and Tear Gas. The men shouted in alarm and fired blindly into the gloom as the armored form of the Hooligan dropped to the pavement behind them. The first man went down quickly enough, a studded baseball bat to the back of the skull sending him sprawling to the ground, thug number 2 was slammed against the wall as the bulk of a home-made shield caught him in the side. Hooligan had just enough time to raise the shield again as the remaining men finally regrouped and turned to fire their dart rifles thinking another mutant had joined the fight. A series of dull thumps along the shield's exterior as the darts fail to penetrate the layered construction of leather steel and Kevlar. The minister had regained his voice and composure and began his preaching again.

"Strike hard brothers and show this monster the strength that god has given us! Purge the unclean for this holy land!"

Hooligan had to chuckle rather dryly the voice modulator in his mask making the sound a bit distorted, almost sinister. "Holy land? Damn are you guys in the wrong place.." Dropping the bat he moves his shield aside and produces a tazer from one of his belt pouches, firing the prongs into the nearest man and watching him fall with a scream and a crackle of electricity. He followed that with a kick to the skull to finish the job as he advances on the others. The Purifiers have figured out that they're not dealing with a mutant now and have discarded their rifles to take this fight hand to hand, brandishing knives. Hooligan is pushed back as they charge forward, his shield now more of a hindrance than an asset he drops it and faces the men on their own terms. The first man lunges with the blade only to have his arm trapped and a vicious kick delivered to his knee, this is followed by a headbutt from the steel covered mask that shatters his nose and drops his to the pavement. Number 2 gets in close, the knife raking across Hooligan's breastplate as he barely turns in time to avoid taking the full hit. A knife-hand strike across the man's throat is followed by a knee to the groin and finally his skull is bounced off the wall as he's tossed aside.

By now the mutants have recovered from the flash-bang and are watching the melee dumbfounded, Hooligan gives them a glance and simply shouts "Run Dammit!" Before the third man delivers a solid kick to his chest sending him staggering back. As men three and four move in to capitalize on the momentary stun Hooligan raises one hand and pressing a hidden stud fires a blinding blast of Pepper Spray into their faces. The men stumble back cursing and sputtering as he pulls new weapons from his harness, a pair of Steel Tonfa. The pair barely have enough time to get their bearings again before both are quickly and brutally laid out by the heavy weapons. That just left the preacher…

The mutants were running back towards Mutant town like their lives depended on it, the preacher headed in the opposite direction. Picking up his Shield the Hooligan does his best captain America and sends in flying down the alleyway to catch him in the back and send him stumbling into some garbage cans. As the man tries to regain his footing he's roughly hauled to his feet and left to stare into the soulless yellow lenses of the mask. "I'm getting tired of running you assholes out of my neighborhood, get the fucking message and stay out of Hell's Kitchen! I've got enough to do without you bringing your little Race War to these streets."

The Preacher sneers defiantly "We are here by the right of God! If you stand with the unclean you will be washed away when the tide of his vengeance sweeps over this city like the great flood of old! You cannot stop us all and we are the endless army of the true lords of this planet-" His tirade is cut off as a Gloved fist slams into his gut, again that modulated voice growling out. "You're nothing more than another hate group, no better than the Klan or the Skinheads. Hiding behind so-called religious right to spread your disease." He drops the preacher, who doubles over and quickly loses his lunch in the alleyway. Though even that doesn't silence him for long. "We are the Soldiers of God, the reverend Stryker has seen the future and knows that what we do will save the human race!"

Hooligan grunts out with a dry laugh as he picks up his shield again. "Seeing the future.. sounds like something a Mutant can do." The preacher turns red with rage and is about to retort only to be silenced by a heavy boot to the face. He ties the men up with the heavy zip-ties from his belt and piles their weapons on the pavement in front of them. Taking a spray can from his belt he leaves the insignia of his mask on the Preacher's back and leaves him dangling upside-down from a fire escape. While he finishes his work he's left to ponder what all this means. These attacks are becoming more and more frequent, the church can't be stopped like this.. it has been taken down in some fashion that can do some lasting damage. That means doing it from the inside. Searching the pockets of the men he finds several business cards that he takes pictures of and then returns to make it appear they weren't touched. One card in particular stands out, a small office offering legal advice. Likely a lawyer for the church, or someone it's members contact when they get in trouble. Either way it could be a way into the group. If you act on the group's behalf, then you have connections to it, or at least know people that do. Collecting his weapons again he heads to where his motorcycle is stashed and heads back home, he's got work to do.

Tony Romano at one time was a small-time forger and identity thief that got himself into some bad trouble with the Chinatown Ghost dragons a few years ago. The Hooligan eventually got him out of that jam so he owed him.. bigtime. Tony was half-asleep watching American idol when he he noticed he wasn't alone in the room and nearly had a stroke as he turned on a light and saw the Hooligan Standing by the door. "Jesus Christ Max! You're gonna give a guy a heart attack doing shit like that!" Tony was one of the few people that knew the Hooligan's true identity, but Max trusted him so it wasn't a cause for concern. "Good to see you too Tony. I need a Favor."

Tony looked a little Skeptical "You know I don't do nothin' anymore Max, I gone totally legit." Max shook his head and chuckled "I know you're still running a side business giving fake green cards to Mexican Workers.. so don't bullshit me Tony. Look I need an identity made.. ID, background, the works."

Tony blinked and stood up "You get yourself in trouble Max? You need to Vanish?" Max shook his head "Look the less you know about it the better, let's just say I gotta do some undercover work." Tony couldn't help but laugh "You being sneaky? You've never done anything that couldn't be solved with brute force.."

Max sighs under the Mask "Look Tony this is important, I got no one else that can help me with this and I can pay you if that's the problem." Tony shakes his head "Naw man we're good, have a seat tell me what you need and let's get to work."
