NYC - Holy Ghost Church
The Holy Ghost Church is small chapel located on the West Side of New York City. It looks like the church was sort of squashed between the buildings. Lines of pews sit in front of a small alter, cardboard collection boxes for clothing and food sit at the back of the church. This church is obviously graced by the lower class of Manhattan, but the priest cares for those that step foot in here.
It's been a few days since Siegfried and Roy ran into the church away from Mephisto's Imps, but Siegfried thought it was a good idea of Roy's to go talk to a Priest about their situation. And what better Priest than the one that helped them out. "Do you remember vhat his name vas?" He asks Roy as the past few days have been a bit odd for him since his mind has been preoccupied.
"No, he didn't say or I'd remember. I never forget anything anymore." Roy says simply. There's no need to expand upon reasons. After all, Siegfried should know that as well as he does. "But I remember what he looked like. Hopefully he will be here. We need to thank him for getting rid of the last two."
Siegfried goes to reach for Roy's hand but stops himself, moving his hand to brush his hair back instead. "I just vonder if our parents and rest of family saw them too." He's not sure if they were sent to kill them, serve as a warning or what. Just as he's about to voice that thought a Priest comes into the Santuary and looks at the two former circus preformers. "Ah, I see that you two have returned." After all who forgets two young men with Imps attacking them outside of a church.
"And without danger this time." Roy says with a firm nod as he extends his hand towards the priest. "I am Rojani Lowari. I… need to ask questions of someone who can believe what we are dealing with. As you have seen it, I am sure that you do believe." He says, reaching his other hand over to place on Siggy's shoulder. "I'm sure they did. But they knew what they were getting into. We did not."
Siegfried follows in suit and puts a hand out to the Priest as well. "I am Siegfried Werner. (pronounced Ziegfried Verner) I have come with Roy to hear answers to same questions. Those..things vere after us because of something ve did many years ago that vas not our chose." He says knowing Roy with explain it further.
The priest shakes both hands and nods. "I am Father Francis Delgado, believe it or not, I am used to what people might consider somewhat strange." He says with a friendly smile. "What is it that I can help the two of you with, and I very much appricate the lack of danger this time Rojani."
"Roy, please." He says, with an offered smile. "Let me… start from the beginning. Years ago, we were part of a circus. A very small unknown circus at the time. Wondervall Wonders. But, things happened, and a man offered the troupe a chance at stardom and fame. All were told to sign, even those that were children and had no idea what they were signing. Now, years later, there are only three or four of us left. Because something is coming to take us. Last night, the things gave us the name Mephisto."
"Ve vere both eight vhen it happen. He offered all this in exchange for something. He said ve vould own us, I believe our family thought it ment he vould own circus." Siegfried adds on to the story hoping to include as much as possible. Even though he was only eight that night, it's a hard night to forget. "Our family even had us children agree. Ve didn't know vhat ve were doing besides listening to our parents."
Father Delgaldo listens to the two of them talk for a bit and nods slowly. "So this, Mephisto, and yes I have heard of him, came to your cirucs years ago and made a deal. Can I ask what deal was? And how many of you were there?"
"Fame and Fortune. And he would own us in the process. They thought he meant the circus." Roy reiterates what Siegfried had said. "But that he would come for us when he needed us. And one by one, over the past few years, we've been dying left and right. Now, we get messengers saying he'll be coming for us soon. When we woke up the next morning, we were different. Marked. Each of us." Roy begins to unbutton his shirt and tug down the undershirt beneath it to reveal the mark on his own chest. "There were 20 something of us. I cannot recall that early as well. My memory didn't enhance until after."
"I have same marking, on leg." Siegfried says as pull up his pant leg to show where it is on his left calf. "Ve voke up next morning, found that ve vere able to do things better, for the act that is. Only the youngest in the troupe are left alive and ve fear that ve are next." Siegfried just says since he'll admit, he's afraid to die.
The Priest nods and takes a deep breath. "Well it sounds like your classic deal with the devil, sell your soul for something that seems good at the time but the price is usually not worth it in the end. Normally I'd yell at someone for doing what you did but you were just children when it happened, which is unfortunate."
"Have you any idea of how we can escape this? Or any suggestions of who to turn to?" Roy asks, plaintively. "We've not done anything wrong other than obeying our parents… which was what we were taught to do." He says with a bit of a sigh. "You would think they would not be able to bind someone without knowledge of what they were doing."
"I vould gladly do anything, giving up what we got, in exchange of being free. Ve have already lost so much because of this." Siegfried says and even though he won't say it infront of Roy, he'd even let himself be taken if it ment Roy got to be free. "It is hard thing, knowing your life is coming to end and you can do nothing."
The priest looks at the two young men and sighs. "Unfortunately Roy that's how it tends to work. They bind you to some contract that is to their benefit without you knowing what you're really doing. The only thing that I can think of to suggest is maybe trying to make a deal of some sort. Trick him at his own game. I usually don't approve of lies and deceit but in a case like this, that might be your best hope." He won't suggest the other option though.
There's a wince from Roy. "Not my strong trait." He says, considering things. "Do you know anyone who might have dealt with him in the past? Someone else we could talk to for help?" He asks. Yes, he knows something's being held back, but he won't press right now. He may come back later to ask without Siegfried there.
Siegfried looks at Roy and nods slowly. It's not his either but it's something. "Ve'll have to vork together on this Roy. Figure out something." He seems to hang onto the Priest's every word and he's coming up with some ideas but most of them are along the lines of how he can sacrifice himself for Roy.
"I'm not really sure, I'll have to see who I can direct you to. If you would like to leave your contact information, I'll be sure to help." Father Delgaldo says as right now there isn't much more he can offer. "I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help."
There's a nod from Roy as he writes his information on a piece of paper. "Of course. I do understand. Please, if you hear or figure out anything, just give me a call. We'll do what we can. we don't want to be beholden to someone we never knew."
Siegfried nods along with Roy's words and also offers his information. He doesn't really have much to add onto that. He figures once they're outside he'll invite Roy over to his stuido apartment in the Bronx to discuss what they just learned. "Danke Father Delalgo, anything you find be great help to us." He says giving the priest a forced smile.
Father Delalgo nods to the both of them and he doesn't envy the situation the two are in. "I will call the two of you immediatly when I have some information. In the mean time don't give up hope and hang in there. You do have a chance to be free."
