Xavier Mansion - Gymnasium
This big room with wooden floors is build with powered students in mind; the entire room is power proof. Blast the walls all you like, they are not breaking. The gym can either be one large room and it also has dividers to make it two smaller gyms. This large Gym has basketball nets, equipment to set up equipment badminton, volleyball, hockey, soccer, gymnastics, fencing, and everyone's favorite, dodge ball.
After this evening's Danger Room session, Robyn asked if he could speak to Forge afterwards. Deciding they'd meet up in the gym after showering and changing and all that, Robyn is now sitting in a chair against a wall close to the doors. He's dressed in a black t-shirt and a black pair of shorts to accommodate for the warmer weather. He knows what he needs to ask Forge, and he's a bit nervous about it, but Robyn is determined to put even more on his plate.
Forge enters from the far side of the room and begins walking towards his appointment after spotting him. Dressed in a grey athletic clothing, his shirt on themed for the institute, the Maker stops feet short of the chair the boy has set himself in and offers a gloved hand as a greeting, "Sorry I'm late. I had some things to attend to in the workshop." Pulling up another chair, the X'er gets right to business, "What seems to be the problem, Robyn?"
Robyn shakes his head. "Don't worry, you're really not late, but anyway yeah. It's not really a problem but I need help. I want to learn how to defend myself not just here." Robyn says pointing at his head, as he has been taking lessons with Addison to work on mental defense. "But physically, like, I wanna learn some kind of fighting technique. Just in case you know?"
Forge raises an eyebrow and puts his hand to his chin, "There's nothing wrong with that. This is a dangerous world we live in. And I like the idea of 'everyone' getting more training. Especially in light of recent…" Forge hmmms, "Invasions?" The hand drops, arms resting on his legs, "Normally, I'd probably just refer you to an ongoing class, but as you're in my squad there's a little pride involved and asking you to check with one of the combat instructors would make me look bad." Forge grins, looking less of his analytical self, "It would have to be on your free time. And mine." Which can be tricky when you're reinventing the wheel 15x a day.
Robyn smiles and nods. "Thank you sir. I don't really want to get into combat, but with things that happen and with being what we are, I'd rather be prepared then be beaten to a pulp cause I didn't know how to defend myself." Just the like the other day with running into the guys on flying motorcycle thingies, he could posses a guy but couldn't do much. "I also figure with being able to posses other people, it might be a good idea to learn how to fight so I can fight in other people's bodies as well."
Forge shakes his head, "You'd do well with some close quarter self defense. That is, in my opinion at least. It would probably work well with your current abilities and give you exactly what you are looking for. And, honestly, self defense and combat are much more different than some understand. Obviously, one is offensive, the other is defensive. But, they tend to get lumped together in some of the classes the Institute offers." X'er nods sagely, "I'll see what I can do with the weekly sessions to separate that blurred line somewhat."
Robyn nods as he isn't really into any sort of physical fighting, never was, so the line is definitely blurred for him. "Okay, I understand, self defense is what I'm more looking for rather than something offensive. I think being able to stay alive and be able to know how to defend yourself is important, especially since my powers aren't meant for me to get up close and personal." Not that jumping into someone's head isn't personal.
Forge makes an agreeing noise, "I'd like to say at your age that you shouldn't have to worry about fighting upclose, or at all. But that's not the sort of world we have operate in." Dry? Perhaps. True? Yes. Both of which match Forge's general M.O. "I'll take a look through the Danger Room archives. I'm sure we've got a couple courses on file that would help as well." And being whom he is, Forge also has to offer, "I'll see about some virtual firing range time as well. What you can't do with your hands you can do with a disarmed thug's gun."
The thought of disarming someone with a firearm is kind of cool and scary at the same time. Robyn doesn't want to die trying to be a hero in disarming someone's weapon but then it's a good thing to know to use only if the occasion needs it. "Okay, that sounds like it could be good sir. And I know, about this is the world that we live in. I mean just cause I'm a mutant, I have a target on my back, but I know I need to do something to keep myself from being a victim because of it like so many others."
Forge agrees, "It's an imperfect world filled with imperfect people with imperfect ideas on how to improve it. Someday, things might be better. But, until it is…" He lets that thought trail off, mind already working the issue of some customized training through the DR. "I'll see if I can have something ready for the middle of next week for training. I'll tack it onto the end for those that want to stay around. Consider it…extra credit."
"Thanks Forge." Robyn says with a smile as he's glad to be making steps towards progress. "Do you think we should also open it up to anyone else on Alpha Squadron who would like to learn? I mean Jared is just healing so it might be good for him to learn self defense…actually I think it'd be good for anyone to learn it but then you know how people are, they'd rather hit then protect."
Forge nods and smiles in that way only an adult can when dealing with 'children,' "Of course. Which is why I said I'd tack it onto the end of training for those who want to stay around." Standing, the Maker looks down at Robyn, "Is everything else alright?" The question isn't a comfortable one, and one Forge usually regrets asking around this school given his typical hands-off approach to the overly-dramatic student population. But, he asks anyways.
Robyn shrugs at the later question before nodding. "Yeah, over all everything is alright. I just had a room change and that's been going well. I'm planning on heading home this weekend so it's a good thing." Robyn stands up and smiles, he really doesn't have much to complain about at the moment. "Thanks for helping me out Forge, but I gotta head back to my room to get some homework done."
Forge nods and takes a step back himself, "It was no problem, Robyn. I'll see you next on friday afternoon, then. Have a pleasant evening." He lets the student leave before he does, returning to the depths of the mansion shortly after.
