NYC- Thompson Square Park
Thompson Square Park is a small park in the middle of Mutant Town. The benches might need a fresh coat of paint, the fence might be rusted in places and the pavement is raised and has cracks but it's all part of the mutant haven and fairly relaxing. Trees and grassy areas are in between the many paths, there are a few structures and benches along the path as well as a special area of the park that is marked 'the dog walk'.
//Two trees have been planted in the park as a Memorial to Carmencita Florez and Detective Baxter each with a plaque stating the tree is in their memory. //
It's late night in the city and even though there isn't a star to be seen in the sky Jeremy is lying down in the grass slowly smoking a cigarette. He's oddly over dressed for the summer, gloves, long sleeved shirt, long pants and boots, pretty much everything but his face is covered. His long hair is sprawled out around him as he seems to be enjoying the quite, well as quite as a park in New York City can get.
Entering the dimly lit park is the large form of Franky. Pushing his usual shopping cart full of various items he's come to find a place to bed down for the night. The shelter full due to the heat he elected to stay outside like he always does when these things happen.
Sitting up at the sound of the shopping cart, Jeremy watches Franky with a bit of apprehension. He's not exactly normal looking and even in Mutant Town he still gets a bit skittish. He watches Franky look for a place to sleep for the night with a bit of curiosity, recognizing the motions from when he was homeless.
Franky hasn't noticed Jeremy yet as he goes down the path until he finds a suitable spot. Humming to himself he takes a blanket from his cart and carefully lays it out, then unwinds another rolled-up blanket revealing a large plush rabbit. "Iz time for shleep Mister Floppy, we are shtaying outzide for der night. Hy vill keep hyu safe don't worry."
Watching Franky set up bed Jeremy speaks up from his spot in the grass not to far away. "I think over there is a bit better. If the cops look around they might find you there easier and make you find a new place to sleep for the night." He says as if he's had experience with it. "Ummm….well they used to at least." There is a bit of nervousness to his tone.
Franky turns as he hears a voice and gives a smile and wave. "Hello Dere, hy am Hokay here. No cops coming into der park at night anymorez, dey do not botherz me even if dey do. Hyu looking for a shpot to shleep az vell? Hy have enudder blanket if hyu needz vone."
Jeremy shakes his head. "No thanks. I actually have a place to sleep now. A few years ago though I had to sleep in parks and anything else until I found somewhere to stay." He doesn't go into too much detail though. Jeremy pushes himself up and walks over to where Franky is, sitting down not to far from the blanket. "It's nice of you to offer most people don't."
Franky nods and smiles "Hy shtay at der shelter ven hy ken, but tonight iz too hot en der shelter iz full zo I shtay outzide. Hy em verry stronk, verry tuff. Ken shtay outzide ven odders ken't." He rummages through the cart and takes out a grocery bag and a two-liter bottle of ginger ale. "Hy vent zomthing to eat? Hy gots Peanut Butter Shamvichs from der Shelter en moved der dumpshter for Mizter Higginz down der shtreet for a bottle of pop."
Jeremy shakes his head. "No thanks, I'm okay on food. I'm not really hungry. Thank you. Though I wish that I met more people like you when I lived on the street. Most of the other homeless people I ran into weren't that nice." He admits. "Well, I used to have to stay outside things never worked out for me at the shelters."
Franky shrugs "Hy like being nize, no point in hurtingz pipple ven dere's no reason. Hy haz a goot life here, haz friendz, haz food, haz Mizter Floppy. No vone really vants to be mean to me. Hy iz shorry hyu had things so rough, life should be goot."
Jeremy shrugs and pulls his knees up to his chest. "Don't worry about it. Things are a better now, a lot better." He says unconsciously pulling his gloves tight on his hands. So how long have you been staying at the shelter Franky?"
Franky hmmms and seems to think for a few moments. "About 5 months hy think. Hy ken't remember anything before dat. Voke up in der Shelter vit Sizter Liza taking care uf me. Been here ever since."
Jeremy nods. "Well it's good you found Sister Liza. A lot of my bad luck was my own doing so…" He just shrugs. "So do they kick you out of the shelter when there are too many people? Or…"
Franky shakes his head and smiles "No hy come out here villingly. Hy iz able to shtay outzide ven it iz too dangerouz for der odders. Dey need it more den Hy do."
Jeremy nods. "Well that's nice of you. It kinda sucks that they weren't able to find another place to put you up for the night. You don't always get the most savory of people out here in the middle of the night but then…you look a lot more intimidating than I do." Since Franky is built like a brick house on top of a stone wall and Jeremy looks like he'd break with a strong gust of wind he's that underweight for someone his size.
Franky shrugs "Don't try en shcare pipple, but it happenz zometimez. Mosht pipple don't vent to bother me ven I'm out here. Few pipple have tried, dey didn't like how it ended."
"Well, I'm not going to try to bother you, I promise." Jeremy says, partially because he does find Franky intimidating. "I think I should be heading back home though Franky. It was really nice meeting you. Maybe I'll see you in the park again sometime. Uh…" He pulls his wallet out of his back pocket and hands Franky a five dollar bill. "It's not much but I figure it might help."
Franky shakes his head "Iz never a bother ven it iz a friend." He smiles wide and takes the bill carefully. "Tenk hyu, if hyu need zomthing hyu ken just ask me. Hy iz goot at moving thingz if hyu need zomething moved. Em not hard to find, just ask around mutent town."
