Xavier's Mansion - Roof

The sloped roof of Xavier's Mansion gives a view of the entire area. For the most part, the roof is inaccessible, except by a select group of Xavier's staff and students. Though, there are certain people that tend to relax and hide up here, to get away from everything.

Meditation for Chloe has taken a more conventional tone of late. The thrill of leaping off the side of the building tempered slightly by the tales of woe linked to students falling off and ruining the lawn. Of course that doesn't mean Chloe has given up visiting one of her favorite spots. Instead she sits crosslegged, skim reading a book on biochemistry, with a look of either zen-like calm or immense boredom on her face.

The hatch to the roof flops open with a metal clang. A hand reaches up, and pulls the rest of the owner up. It's Theo. He's out of breath slightly, like he's been expending a lot of energy. He places a thin looking box, like a shoebox, on the roof before pulling himself the rest of the way up.
He sits on the roof, and swings his legs up and out of the hatch. "Hey Chloe," he says. "You never stay put in one place for very long, do you?" he asks.

"What's the point in having superspeed if I live slowly?" Chloe wonders innocently, poking at her cybernetic hand. Presumably to reduce the volume on the mp3 player. "The trick isn't to chase me, but to find somewhere I'll end up visiting and wait. I guess you've been looking for me for something? Cyclops isn't planning some lame surprise training session is he?"

Theo stands to his feet, picking up the box he carries. There's something about his walk that makes him look tense, ever so slightly. "If he is, it'll be a surprise to me, too," he answers. "I guess you got a good point, though."
Theo's been much more careful about the way he acts since Chloe's talk with him. He hasn't yelled as much at people, and only been in one fight, which, for a change, most people took his side in. He sits carefully down next to the speedy blonde, and continues. "I found something, and thought it'd be something you'd like," he says, handing her the box he carries.

Chloe blinks a few times. "Okay?" she replies, accepting the box. "How've things been with you lately anyway Theo? Not been challenged to any duels by offended boyfriends yet?" She grins, then pops the box open with a fast fluid motion. "Lets take a look see…"

"Nope, been trying real hard to keep my jerk comments to myself," he says with a slightly sheepish smile. Inside the box is a pair of specially made Vibram Five Fingers shoes, with an extra durable soul to handle Chloe's friction.
"I don't know if they'll last forever, with how much you run," he says. "But I know you hate wearing shoes. And I thought, this way, you can wear these even places you have to wear shoes, but you'll still feel barefoot."

Chloe holds the box up, to better peer at the shoes inside. "You found something presumably not meaning 'just laying around'?" she wonders. "Because if so you have the strangest luck. Finding shoes in my size and… are these custom shoes? The don't look like the ones you find in the store." She pulls one out to take a better look. "It's not that I hate shoes for the record. I just ruin so many I can't afford to get new ones for use around school. It's the slowing down you see, the friction melts the bottoms."

Theo tries to prevent his face from turning a little red. "I found them online, and with a little of my power I was able to get ahold of the design team," he explains. "I know you burn through shoes, and so I asked if there was a way they could make some shoes with a really good sole that woulldn't wear out quickly." Apparently, he's had this in the works for some time.
"What do you think?" he asks.

Chloe doesn't quite reply immediately. Unless frowning and pulling the shoes on in a rush of motion counts as an answer. "They're pretty comfortable," she decides, wriggling her toes. "You… you actually got the /designers/ to make a custom sole? That's really nice of you Theo but you know I haven't got you anything, right? I mean I wasn't expecting anyone to buy me stuff…"

Theo laughs as he watches the toes wiggle in the peculiar looking shoes. "I know, I just wanted it to be a surprise," he says. "I didn't want you to get me anything," he tells Chloe, "I just wanted to get you something nice." He shrugs, as if he doesn't know what other physical movement to make, and sits on his hands.

Chloe considers the reason, then shrugs in return. "Fair enough! Although I still don't quite get what I've done to deserve presents. My birthday was gone before I even got here and I'm yet to pull any heroics. You're not pre-emptively bribing me for something are yah?"

Theo frowns, "No!" he objects. "I just…" he pauses, as if he's intimidated to say the next thing on his mind. "I just think a pretty girl deserves to get some nice things sometimes. And you're pretty, but also once of the nicest girls I know, so you deserve them doubley." He studies Chloe's face carefully, looking for her response.

Chloe giggles. "Lighten up Theo! I'm only teasing you," she replies cheerfully. "And thanks for being so thoughtful. I'll try to only wear them if there's no chance of supervillians showing up. Because it'd be totally rude to let a gift get ruined."

Theo gets a huge smile on his face with Chloe's response, but he's honestly not sure what to think. "Totally," he answers. He pulls his hands back out and grabs his knees loosely. "Well, I'm glad you like them," he confirms, as if he's suddenly run out of things to say.

Chloe nods. "I hope they weren't too expensive," she says awkwardly. "Because it's not like we can just go out and get part time jobs here and I don't like the idea of my friends spending loads of money on me. Unless you're a secret millionaire in which case I guess it'll probably be okay."

"Nah," Theo says, "They weren't too expensive." Which is an outright lie, but he doesn't want to say how much the cost. "It'd be nice to be a millionaire, maybe I should go work for Tony Stark this summer," he laughs. "Actually, that wouldn't be a bad idea. I bet he pays well."

"Probably! Although I'm not sure it'd be the best idea ever," Chloe muses, dangling her feet over the edge of the roof and swinging them back and forth. "He does military type stuff right? So there would be ID checks, which would lead back to the school and that means big trouble. Plus they might have mutant detecting machines in the doorways. Telepathy has gotta be a big worry for people who make stuff, especially if it goes boom."

"Yeah, all his stuff relies on machines, so maybe I could find a way around it," Theo suggests. "I dunno." He doesn't opt to drop his feet over the edge. He's not quite that brave, though he is sitting near the edge as well, "So, I was wondering if—" His phone beeps, and he pulls it out of his pocket. It's an alarm, and it says MEET DR MCCOY," across the display. He makes a face at the phone as he turns it off, and looks back at Chloe. "I was wondering if you would be up for going and doing something sometime?" he asks, a little bit of a vague way of asking for a date.

"Perhaps, but I don't think that'll solve the background check problem," Chloe points out with a shrug. "Going and doing something? You mean like getting a group of people to hit the movies sometime?"

"Yeah, something like that," Theo says, "Or, just you and me, if you wanted to," Theo suggests cautiously. His heart is pounding so hard now that he imagines that Chloe must be able to hear it, but fortunately, it's no louder externally, it's only he that can hear it.

Chloe blinks her peculiar superspeed flutter-blink. "Groups tend to work best. I mean the more people the easier it becomes for me to stay interested in what's happening. The biggest downside of superspeed is boredom after all!"

"Yeah, sure," Theo answers, faking that he doesn't mind that at all. "Well, we should do something sometime soon," he says. He hops up to his feet promptly. "I gotta go meet Dr. McCoy, but I'll see you later, okay?" He starts to walk back to the hatch he came up through.

"Yeah that'd be cool. I could do with hitting the big city a little more often," Chloe agrees cheerfully. "And it'll give me an chance to try the new shoes out. I'll just have to hope we don't manage Xavier student disaster homing!"
