Xavier Mansion - Emma Frost's Office
//Miss Frost's office is not as white as one would expect, however it does present an overall theme in the room. Using a classic den/office style structure from the building, the hardwood floor has been mostly covered from entry to desk with a white carpet that has been decorative bordered in an ivy-pattern, with the center having a delicately done floral arrangement. Two plush white leather chairs sit slightly staggered and angled facing a white marble topped desk of dark-stained oak, the Xavier Academy logo in front emblazoned in a polished steel. Atop the desk is materials for physical writing as well as a dual-monitor computer system that seems keyboardless, instead having a single mouse-like interface device. To the right are a pair of striated white marble book-cases filled from top to bottom, in the center of the pair a marble fireplace that burns sedately despite the time or season.
The left wall has a series of file cabinets sitting next to another computer desk, this one with a standard keyboard and mouse with the academy logo floating sedately on the screen. Next to those is a table where mail seems to be laid out next to a carafe of what is either coffee or tea, and a small pile of cookies, which seems to vary day by day. Behind the carafe is a small containers for sugar, fresh cream, and honey.
Behind the desk is a bank of windows facing northwards, running practically from wall to wall, bordered on both sides by silver-embroidered sheer silk cloth, so even when drawn you can make out details outside, and so long as day is present, line pours in to give the room a sense of warmth. For the times when more light is required, it comes from the vaulted office ceiling from a tasteful-looking light and fan combination. Just behind the desk and on the right side is a second door with a hand-print scanner.//
Over the last few weeks Cloud has been experiencing… something. Not sure what else to do Cloud figured he's try Xavier's for answers, if anyone can tell him what's happening it's one of the X-Men. Taking a deep breath he walks up to Emma's office door and knocks.
The trick knocker goes off as usual, the door clicking open just as the knuckles are about to fall, and from inside the room can be heard a familiar voice saying in her crisp Bostonian accent, "Yes Mister Rosen?" As the door slowly opens, it's an odd sight to see. There is what looks like a device displayed on one of her projected screens, and the work desk currently has one of the backplates of the school smartphones on it, completely taken apart and showing a complex set of micro-circuity on display. Emma herself is sitting there in her usual business chic, with a pair of reading glasses on, and a pair of what looks like very find tools in her delicate fingers.
Cloud frowns for a second when he sees Emma working on the smart phone, he knows she's a business wiz but didn't know she knew tech too, "Hey Miss Frost, and call me Cloud please", Mister Rosen always makes him feel like he's in trouble. "Wow, is there anything stopping you? mind reading, business savy and tech? most i can handle is car parts", he walks up towards the desk, "I might have a problem".
"I have built devices to swap minds, inhibit powers, and the addition to Cerebro that makes this school generally safe from those who would do it harm, Mis… Cloud." Emma replies as she finishes soldering a linkage she was handling. But then she stops, and removes the glasses, which are actually high-tech magnifiers and with their own little heads-up display, "And for the record… I try NOT to use my mind-reading in business. Everyone assumes I do, and it keeps them all honest." Which just flashes a grin across white lips, "You have a problem you say… well… speak up." Spoken as she motions for one of the chairs across from the desk.
"Wow… swap minds. Really?", Cloud is firmly sticking with his don't touch anything he's not told to policy when it comes to things at the school, he really should come up with a random portal policy. "Well i can build cars from parts if you ever need help with that", he raises an eyebrow at the grin, Emma is so confident of herself she doesn't even need to use her powers, just the knowledge gets her a healthy level of fear and respect. "It's hard to explain, i dunno if it's some new power or i'm going blind, crazy or both. Sometimes things just go blank and i can see or maybe feel things, sometimes colours or like a change in the air, like i said i can't really explain it".
Emma pauses for thought on this, one finger touching her lip, and then she tilts her head, causing some of that ash blonde hair to spill in that oh so perfect way over her shoulder. When the thought clears, she adds, "Secondary mutation is not unheard of among mutants. I had one manifest two… maybe three years ago, however… I had it excised because of reasons that do not matter to this conversation." Her computer display changes over to the standard Xavier logo, "Would you like Doctors McCoy and Reyes to put you through the medical scanner?"
She must know she's doing that right? "If that'll help i'm all for it, i nearly crashed my car a few days ago 'cause of whatever this is thats happening". Cloud frowns, "This mutant thing really never stops screwing us over does it? though never know, might just be crazy", he holds up his crossed fingers.
That comment just causes Emma Frost to stop what she's doing, and sit back, "That must be the most closed-minded thing I have ever heard you say. Most of the students we have issues usually extending beyond their powers. Yes, your mutation might be evolving, and hence causing issues… but there was no call for you to state it as such. When we stop believing these are gifts, however balanced they might be, we stop believing in their worth, and how they can benefit humanity as a whole and our own kind in particular."
"Wait thats not what i meant, i've made piece with my mutantion and how much of who i am is connected to it, i actually kinda like being a mutant, but like i said i nearly crash my car the other day, if i did crash i can see it coming and go metal, the people i crash into aren't likely to do the same", Cloud shrugs, "Hitting an innocent person with a car because of a power malfunction won't help other mutants".
Emma inclines her head, and then says, "Then I apologize for misunderstanding. It happens when I am not deliberately attempting to read your thoughts… which is still hard not to do, Cloud." She begins tapping a few things in on the screen, "Doctor Reyes is out for a few days at a conference, and Doctor McCoy is leading a field trip to the Smithsonian, but they are both back early next week. Usually it is best to start with a medical scan, and we can then follow up with some time in the Danger Room to see if we can actively witness one of these episodes. Will that do?" But then Emma pauses, "Or was there some other reassurance you wished from me."
"Thanks for making the effort to stay outta my head, if i seem dumb normally i'm a lot worse from inside my head", Cloud nods, "Yeah that would all help but i wanted to know if i could chill at the mansion for the summer, i'd kinda like to get some sort of handle on whatever this is before i go back to things like driving again".
Emma taps her lips once more, and then nods, "Of course… we can put you up in a guest room for the month. That should be plenty of time to settle this affair for you. In the meantime, if you want, I can have some people to your apartment to bring things you might require. Discreetly of course. Or they can drive you out and help you pack."
Cloud smiles, "Thank you, you have no idea how much of a load of my mind this is", he actually feels like a hundred pounds lighter with that weight lifted, "If you know a company you trust to move things here thanks that'll be a big help but as far as hiring goes i wanna pay the movers, i figure i should at least pay my own way as you're gonna let me stay here and help me again".
The desk drawer to Emma's right is opened, and she takes out a business card, passing it over to the young man, "Call them, let them know you are with the school, and they will handle the rest." It looks like a generic moving company, but the address is from around Mutant Town, "The facilities here are always open to our students. Even the ones who have left and returned, Cloud. Would there be anything else?" the question seeming a bit pointed as her eyes flit to her cluttered desktop.
Cloud takes the offered card, "Thanks Miss Frost", he follows the eye flit to the electronics on the desk, "No, i'll leave you to what you were doing, thanks of seeing me". He heads over to the door, "I'm totally going to behave this time round, no portals for me, promise", with that he slips out the door.
