Xavier Mansion - Holding Cells

Three cells line each wall each with an energy barrier that can be switched on and off with those with the security codes. The tech here is advanced and not something an average person can figure out. Inside the cells there are degrees of powers suppression, depending on who it's holding. There are cameras monitoring those held in here so there isn't much privacy. Each cell has a bed and a toilet in it and those held in here would be feed regularly. The door leading to the rest of the mansion is made of a thick, heavy steel, and is locked securely by advanced electronic means.

Theo has a new pad of paper. The cell is still locked, but fortunately, No one will be coming in to see him wandering the cell like a lunatic. There's a smeared picture on the wall, drawn in marker. A stick man with a box inside of his head, and another stickman inside of the box.
Theo quietly writes on the pad. It's a series of numbers. Some sort of elaborate math equation. Definitely not something that is part of the school curricullum. His legs are folded, he isn't sitting on the bed, rather he's on the floor near the corner. The bed is neatly made, you could bounce a quarter on it. Next to the exit there are three stacks of papers, all with much less coherent scribblings on them of numbers, but neatly piled intentionally.

Lucas peers into the cell. He's wearing a pair of khaki cargo shorts and a wifebeater, and furrows his brow a little at what he sees. "What the fuck is all that shit?" he asks, with an amused grin.

"Theo looks up at Lucas, and quietly closes his notepad. He folds his arms on top of it. "Just some stuff I was working on," he mouses. His previous bold demeanor is greatly diminished. He puts the pad down on the bed, at a perfectly perpendicular line to the side of the bed, and then gets to his feet. His pen goes into his pocket deliberately and silently. He walks to the front of the cell, and remembers the stacks of numbers. "I wasn't really myself yesterday. It was a really bad day. He laughs a little. "I told you my powers sucked." He gives a slight grin, but only because he's not sure why Lucas is here. He isn't certain what to expect.

Lucas furrows his brow, looking at the cell. "Your powers are you do math?" He looks back at Leo. "Or you have Super OCD?" He tilts his head a bit. "Both suck, but Ah reckon only one needs medication…"

Theo knits his brow unevenly. "Um, no, my powers are to hear machines," he says, indicating the cell around him. Right now the dampeners are on, so he doesn't hear anything. "I kinda heard way more than I wanted to yesterday…" he doesn't continue.
"What do you want?" he asks, changing the subject and cutting to the chase. He hasn't even seen Lucas since the incident. He waited for several hours in the medbay, until the surgery was over to know that Lucas wasn't dead, but he didn't come back after that, and didn't make an effort to see him while he was awake in medbay.

Lucas shrugs, and leans against the doorframe. His left eye is still a bit bruised. "Ah reckon Ah figured, you didn't come visit me, an' since Ah'm a better person then y'all, Ah'd come down here an' make sure you was all right." He waits a full few seconds, before breaking the dry sarcasm with a playful smirk. "James didn't hurt you did he?" he asks, more serious.

Theo barely moves as he converses, holding his arms in one another in front of him. His stance is closed and quiet. "No," he says. "Well, yes. But nothing big. I won out over him. Good thing for you, huh?"

Lucas shrugs, "Ah was okay. Ah'm always fine." He studies Theo for a long moment. "You really pissed me off the other day. With that comment about your girlfriend." He looks away for a moment, and then back at Theo. "Ah was mad enough Ah picked a fight with Jimmy over somethin' what Ah shoulda just talked to him about. Almost got me killed." He sighs, "Anyway, Ah just wanted you to know…" There's a little shrug, "…Ah thought about it, an' Ah get that you couldn'ta known. Ah overreacted, so… Forget it." He nods, as if he had been judging his pseudoapology and it passed the test, and then he turns to go.

Theo lowers his gaze as Lucas speaks, and doesn't look him in the eye. He doesn't seem to mind that it's only half an apology. He doesn't answer until after Lucas starts to turn to leave. "Lucas. I should've known," he says. "Not about your girlfriend. But I know better than most of the people here not to joke about that kind of thing." An uncommon type of behavior, his recent events have prompted Theo to be a little more gentle. "Maybe I make sick jokes like that because it hits too close to home for me, and I'd rather joke about it and pretend that it's all just a bad dream." His apology isn't full either, so maybe between the two of them they make a whole one.

Lucas turns, looking back over his shoulder. He nods a little, then looks down at his shoes. He steps back over to the door. "Ah don't tell people about her. Ah ain't-" He swallows, furrowing his brow. "Ah prefer folks don't know. Okay?"

Theo nods. "I didn't hear anything," he says to confirm the secret. He lets out a sigh. "It's bull what happened to her. Bull what happened to my family, too. The world would've been better if the X gene never happened. Advancement in evolution my ass. Everybody will kill each other over it yet." He laughs half-heartedly. "So much for evolution, right?"

Lucas furrows his brow a little, and then just answers quietly, "Sure." He looks down, then back at Theo. "You know, if it weren't us, it would be a different problem. The world just creates them, genes or no." He leans against the doorframe once more. "Ah reckon, my life sucks ass so's somebody else's maybe don't have to so much."

"I'd just assume someone else's life be the one that sucks," Theo says bluntly. "Call me selfish." Theo lets go of his arms, and they drop to his sides. "But I'd place even money. The garbage about this X gene, the stink people raise…It'll tear the world apart. I just hope we're dead and long forgotten before it does. I'm not gonna hold too much hope, though."

Lucas nods, "It will. And we prolly won't be." He sighs, "Why are you locked up? You're twice as straight as Ah am, an' they let me run loose."

The young technopath shrugs. "Beats me. I don't even know how I got here. I remember getting pissed at one of the homos," he says. "But that's all I can really remember. Next thing I knew I was here. Nobody's really explained it to me yet. It's quiet in here, though," he says. "At least I don't have to hear every machine in the complex while I'm in here. They must have some sort of thing that shuts down powers."

Lucas furrows his brow, "Wait wait wait…" He shakes his head a bit, a little surprised by that. "…the… homos?" He tilts his head, "Seriously. Did you just say that?

Theo gives Lucas a confused look. "Yeah? So? They get mad when I call them fags, so I'm gonna try to be 'sensitive' so they don't come clobber me in my sleep." Apparently, he doesn't think that his alternate is an offensive term.

Lucas lifts his finger up and opens his mouth to say something, pauses, and then he just laughs and shakes his head. "Right. Okay. Stupid fags." He laughs a little more, and turns to leave, still clearly amused.

Theo calls after Lucas, knowing that he's missing something. "What?" he says. "That offensive too?" he laughs incredulously. "I mean, what am I supposed to call them? I bet gay sounds offensive, so I shouldn't say that, and I'm pretty sure 'fudgepackers' won't win me a lot of points." He holds his hands up in the air. "How about 'The other white meat'? I got nothin."

Lucas turns back, still chuckling. "Ah reckon Ah'd go with gay over homos." He smiles, "What'd they ever do to you? You got like, an Uncle what touched you funny in your back closet or some such?"

Theo's laugh drops rather suddenly. He doesn't answer the question, but the question doesn't amuse him at all. "That isn't funny," he says in a rather warning tone. It seems that it's Lucas' turn to make the wrong joke. "Don't joke about that kinda thing."

Lucas shakes his head, "Weren't no joke. Ah was just wonderin' what the issue was what made you so prejudiced. Y'all seem like a pretty right educated kid." He shrugs, "Forget Ah asked. Ah just, you know, figured you was better'n that is all."

"Well, it wasn't me, okay," Theo responds so that there is no mistake. "It was someone else, and it's not something I'd like to really go into." He goes back to the bed and takes a seat. "So maybe I'm not better than that," he says. "But that's who I am, and if they want me to change my mind, it's gonna take a bit longer than a month around them." He doesn't seem intent on making any apologies for his prejudice. He laughs, "They were just sayin' the other day, 'be yourself'. Funny how people say that when they don't really know you, isn't it?"

Lucas smirks, "THAT, my friend, is a fuckin' truism." He sighs, "Okay, Ah ain't gonna lecture you an' shit, but Ah need to say one thing on that just so's Ah said it, an' then Ah won't give you shit no mores, okay?" He sniffs, and then offers, "Straight people rape folk too. We don't crucify all straight folk because it happens." He nods, "There. So, great." He nods once more, "Ah reckon my work here is done, then." He smiles, a goofy, toothy grin.

"Aight," Theo says to Lucas' promise after he says he needs to say something. He listens to give his own pearl of truth.
He laughs, "You bastard," he says, starting to show a little of that more confident smirk he had the other day. Lucas makes a good point, and Theo will give it to him. "You're right." Of course, they won't be raping him, so he's not as concerned about straight rapists. "Well, have a good night," he says. "Maybe they'll let me out in the next month or so. We'll have to go do something more interesting than talk across an energy field."
