Xavier's Mansion - Courtyard

Surrounded on three sides by the school, a large courtyard forms the front yard. The courtyard leads right up to the door of the mansion. Yellow square stone slabs cover the ground where the grass would be. The most noticeable thing about the courtyard is the large statue of Jean Gray, aka Phoenix, in the middle as a memorial. Benches surround the outside of the statue so students can sit and hang out in the courtyard. There are two paths leading off the courtyard, one to the left and the other to the right.

The sun has already fully set for what has to be a couple hours now, but it's almost hard to tell with how well lit the front of the mansion actually is. The courtyard is almost completely empty for what seems to be the norm this late at night save one lone teen sitting down on the front steps, chin resting in palm and staring blankly at the memorial of Jean Gray standing directly before her. Why she's wandered out here is even lost on Chezlie herself, but it seemed better than staying cooped up inside of her dorm room. That little living space is nothing but a big ball of anxiety for the soon to begin school semester.

Already having studied a good deal today, Theo has decided to rest his books, and for a short period, is actually looking for something more entertaining to do with himself. He hadn't realized that Chezlie had returned, and so as he comes from the dorms, his eyes light up as he sees the girl. "Chezlie! You're back!" he says with a grin, heading toward her. "Ready for school to start back up?" he asks, joining her next to the statue, though not appreciating it with his own eyes.

The sound of Theo's voice immediately pulls the little tattooed teen's attention away from the statue and directly on him. "Theo! Yep, got back about a week ago." She smiles before applying a single digit to attend an itch at the bridge of her nose. "Me, ready for school? Hell no. Still trying to figure out what exactly happened last year." A couple chuckles fall through her lips as she stands up, momentarily stretching both arms outward. "You?"

The technopath shrugs. "I don't think it'll be too much of a problem. I'm trying to get every AP class I can so I'm not bored to tears, and I got a job with Tony Stark over the summer, so now I've got that on my plate as well. Best job EVER, by the way." Of course, it's also his first job ever.

"Oh wow, that's awesome. Good for you." Chezlie replies with genuine enthusiasm and accented by a curt nod. Of course to those that know her well would also know that is something she'd be horrible at faking. "What's he got you doing? Working at his R&D department?" She asks, though with an obvious tinge of humor in the guess.

"How'd you know?" Theo asks, confirming her comment. "Yeah, I built a robot for fun, and showed it off in front of him, and he thought it was the best thing ever, so he gave me a job. It's a little bit of a drive, but I have a car now, so that makes it not so bad." It's clear that Theo is rather proud of both his new job, and his new car. "Now if only I could get Scott to let me keep it in the garage," he says with a sideways smile. "We could go grab something to eat and you could tell me about all the adventures in Utah."

The confirmation of what she was in a way joking about catches Chezlie completely by surprise. "No kidding? That's really awesome!" Her level of enthusiasm has drastically increased as well as the width of her smile. "So no more threats about taking one of Scott's cars out for a ride then? Bummer." She jests, eyes briefly looking back over the statue posing in the middle of the courtyard. "Food sounds about good right now, though I'm not sure there's much to say about Utah. It's no cure for boredom you know." She turns back to face him, beaming from ear to ear. "Guess what though? Well, you may already know about it, but I got moved over to the New Mutant squad."

"Oh hey, congratulations!" Theo says, pulling his keys from his pocket and spinning them once before putting them back. "Then you got Mr. Guthrie, right?" he says uncertainly. "I'm still in Corsairs so I got ole' One eye. Come on, we gotta go get it if we're gonna take my car." The boy starts toward the gates.

"Yep, Mr. Guthrie it is. Seems really intent on giving us the best training sessions he possibly can, which is nice." Chezlie says and begins to follow Theo as he walks towards the gate. "Ole' one eye." She says, snickering at the nickname. "Good thing that 'eye' isn't telepathic, otherwise we'd probably have to haul ass out of here right now just to get some food."

Theo shrugs. "Scott wants to meet with us, and talk about what we should learn from the danger room and stuff. I don't really like the danger room, though." It isn't too long a walk, only a few minutes to where the car is parked off campus, but still not as convenient as if it were in the garage.

Chezlie nods, "Yeah, Mr. Guthrie had the same type of talk with us as well." She falls silent for the rest of the walk until the car is reached. "It's funny how opposite we are in training aspects here. You need to take all the AP classes offered to not be bored and I absolutely love danger room sessions. Makes sense when you think about my powers though." There's more laughter, though this time with a slight nervous feel. "So, where we grabbing a bite to eat?"

Theo seems much less uncomfortable than Chezlie. "Well, I dunno, what're you in the mood for?" he asks. And then there is his car. It is the size of a smart car, a little pudgy thing, but it's a smart car that looks like a ferrari, silver and sleek. He seems to have had a very productive summer.

The sight of the car causes Chezlie's head to cock to the side, her brows furrowing as complete visual of the vehicle is taken in. "Wow, I'm use to riding around in old beat up dodge van's. Though, I guess something like this would be completely worthless when you have over fifty kids, right?" She looks back over to Theo crossing her arms. "What do you think about some greasy diner food? The type that always serves breakfast."

Theo lets out a laugh, "Yeah, you might have trouble getting everybody into this car. But it's just me and you, so I think we'll be all right. We could hit up Waffle House," he suggests. "I think that'd fit the bill." He clicks the doors to unlock, and hops into the car, and then reaches across the seat to open the door for Chezlie. He starts it up. No massive roar, rather a quiet hum from the engine, as if it didn't run on gasoline. He hits the roof, and it folds back.

"Good think I decided against inviting the family out then." Chezlie says as she slips into the passenger seat of the car. Her head immediately turns up as the roof begins to fold back. "Oh, a convertible too? That's really cool." Her eyes fall into a state of constant searching as she begins to take in all the little idiosyncrasies of the vehicle. "The Waffle House? Yeah, that should work perfectly."

The car seems…different. Slightly different dimensions from most cars, even smart cars. Across the dash is the Stark Industries logo. "I made some adjustments, but I haven't really gotten to try them out yet," he says. He slides the gear into reverse, and then guns it. The car quickly spins backward and out of its parking place, and is facing forward again with a remarkable turning radius. He places it into drive, facing down the dark road. "So," he says, buckling his seatbelt. "To Waffle House we go." And he slams on the accelerator. The car launches like it were shot from a gun, and begins barreling down the road. It's a good thing they are invincible teenagers, otherwise this might be dangerous.

The Stark Industries logo is immediately seen as the tattooed teen reaches out to give a little pat across the dashboard. "It's nice." She says, her hands immediately moving to find some sort of 'handle' she can grab onto as the car is slammed in reverse and pulled away from it's parking space. "What type of adjustments?" She asks preparing herself for what is the expected fast take off. Makes sense if he was able to buy a car, he'd get something with plenty of speed.

"Well," Theo yells over the wind rushing past them. "Tony built this thing and said that it could go about 90. I think I can make it do 140, but right now, I'm shooting for 120." Of course, controlling such a small object at such a high speed may not be wise. He looks down at the speedometer as the dark trees rush past. "Woo!" he exclaims, his hair flapping all around his head, "I just shaved half a second off the 0-60!"

"Is getting this little thing to go that fast a good idea!?!" Chezlie shouts out, hoping to get her voice to carry over the sound of the wind whipping past them. Despite the vocalized concern, she herself doesn't seem at all worried about how fast they're already going. Perhaps she's grown a little too comfortable with trusting others and their powers. I should have brought something to keep my hair down!" which of course is flying all over her head, face and what little space is in between the two teens in the car. Her left hand is immediately pulled up in hopes to quell the situation as much as possible.

"Probably not!" If Chezlie is paying attention, she'll realize they are quickly coming to the time that they have to turn at the end of the road. Theo suddenly hits the brakes, and the car immediately loses speed at a far more rapid pace than is probably comfortable, and he grabs the outside of the car. "Lean left!" And with that, he hits the turn, pushing the limits of whether the car can keep from flipping or not.

If the wind wasn't so loud, then the nervous laugh spewing from Chezlie's lips might be a little unnerving. As it stands, it's completely washed over by the swishing sounds whirling all across both teens heads. "Didn't think so." The tattooed teens knuckles turn white as she firmly plants both fists down into her seat, trying to brace herself for the up coming turn and as instructed, leans left.

The car doesn't quite go up on two wheels, but it feels like it will. After the turn, Theo doesn't continue to persist in his reckless driving, and instead returns to a safe speed. "That was fun," he declares. "I think there was a little more left in it, I just ran out of road. Got to 100." His hair is everywhere, but he doesn't seem to mind. "Do people do that in Utah?" he asks.

"Speed?" Chezlie replies, looking much calmer now that he's slowed their speed down. "All the time. There's really nothing there but long stretches of road." This time around her laughter has lost that nervous quality and has resumed in her usual carefree way. "But yes, it was fun. Just wish I had some sort of handle to grab, you know?" Her eyes move up to where this would normally be located on a car that was a convertible.

Theo looks where Chezlie is indicating. "Oh yeah, hmm, guess I'll have to bring that up tomorrow." He continues on toward the Waffle House. "I guess if I just had big long stretches of straight road, I'd probably do that all the time too." And so through the night the headlights lead, on to the tasty midnight waffles.
