Ecouteur is an anthropologist who works for Department H as an investigator. He has recently completed basic police training to work as a field agent.
History
Yoni was born in Montreal to a middle-class Reform Jewish family. His parents had escaped Poland in the late 70s along with 5 other couples related to them. His father had worked as a librarian. He is now retired. His mother was a housewife who currently runs an arts and crafts business over the internet. He’s the oldest of five children but lived in an extended family where his 16 cousins and siblings were his peer group. He had few friends outside of family.
When Yoni first hit puberty he started hearing voices. He read up on the symptoms of schizophrenia before deciding he had some type of psychic ability. He found that he could block out the voices by concentrating but the effort exacerbated his reputation as shy and withdrawn during his teenage years.
After finishing high school, he was tested through Department H mutant affairs which gave him a scholarship to Universite de Montreal in archeology in return for a commitment to work for the Canadian government for a period of time afterward. He worked part-time for Department H as a researcher while he was in school. During his post-graduate field work he assisted on several cases in Northern Quebec. After graduation with a Master’s degree in Archeology (his thesis was on Algonquian culture) he has worked full-time for Department H. The last year he has gotten restless and more willing to stretch his limits. He has started a hobby as a comedian/story teller and did a set at Justes pour Rire comedy festival. He’s been working on the police certification in order to be effective in the field.
